Many people are more active today than they were many years ago. Injury prevention and diagnosis plays a big role in today’s society. Preventing an injury is important for many athletes all over the world, and for people that are physically active. Preventing injuries can benefit an athlete in the long run. Athletic training is a forever changing job field, trying to keep up with the latest research and methods. With that being said daily tasks do not change very often. Basic tape jobs, stretching, and simple exercises rarely change; while prevention methods may change. Taping to prevent an injury changes as new information is found on how the injury is caused and how it can be prevented. For example, concussions have been a huge focus for all athletic trainers. Recent studies and research have revealed new finds on how dangerous a concussion really is. This has changed how athletic trainers deal with head injuries.

To me an Athletic Trainer is someone that graduates from college certified to provide help to people that are injured, right out of college. This major can be obtained in four years without and further education, however; must take classes to keep up with the ever growing medical field. The main thing I think of when I think about going into Athletic Training is working at a school with the schools sports teams, however; they also can work in physical therapy clinics, hospital settings, nursing homes, etc. Athletic Trainers focus on prevention, treatment, what is wrong, and getting the patient back to health as well as working along side a doctor or physical therapist for further assistants.
Being an athletic trainer in various sports for over five years, Pete has a great deal of insight and suggestions for someone who is interested in the field. As I am now considering a supplementary degree in athletic training, Pete has been exceptionally helpful in guiding me through that world. As many of my courses in Kinesiology also apply to an Athletic Training degree, he proposes that I get another bachelor’s degree, as it would take only a short period of time. Recently I have investigated three different environments Athletic Trainers can be used in the were interesting to me. The first one I looked into was “PRORehab” a clinical outreach program that specializes in rehab of musculoskeletal injuries and illnesses. As an Athletic Trainer in this facility, they work with pediatric geriatric, workmen’s comp, and athletes mostly. Depending on the time of year, their schedules are usually Monday-Friday with some Saturday’s, some local school trips during the school year, and just regular Monday-Friday hours during the summer. Due to a back injury, I was often forced to sit out of sports and fun activities that I loved. Although I felt like this was the worst thing to ever happen to me, I learned from the experience. I have decided to become an athletic trainer so I can do my part in helping people that don't want to sit out of their favorite activity. My goal is to help as many injured athletes get back to their favorite sport as I can. I do not want to let another athlete suffer from sitting out. I plan to attend the University of Toledo in the fall of 2016. I will get my bachelor's degree in athletic training, then furthering my education with a Master of Science in Exercise
There are some downsides to being an athletic trainer, one downside to being an athletic trainer is that it requires a bachelors degree and probably a masters degree. Be ready to travel very frequently you will be going with that team every time they travel. Another downside is that because sports teams often play on weekends and school nights you will have to be there for all of it, that will be very annoying because you have to do that for every single sport.
