The following is a case study of a 66-year-old Caucasian female client, C.S, who has major depression and a history of posttraumatic stress disorder. The patient is married and her highest level of education is a bachelor’s degree. Her religion is not specified. The patient looks a little disheveled. She has short gray curly hair, glasses, and a floor length white dress with colorful stains throughout it. Before approaching the client, she appeared to be anxious. Her hand is against her chest and she is taking deep breaths. The patient says “I voluntarily committed myself here because I don’t feel safe on my own and I was going to kill myself.” As I continue to talk to the patient, her anxiousness does decrease and she tells me more about her depression.
Social Family History
C was born in the 1950s. As a child, the patient grew up in a suburban community with her parents and no siblings. Her uncle sexually abused the patient, during her younger days. C developed Posttraumatic stress disorder shortly afterward. Eventually, the patient went to a university in Philadelphia and got her degree as a computer software engineer. She met her current husband at the university she attended. He has Asperger’s syndrome and now owns a little store near their apartment. After she got her degree she moved to Washington D.C and worked there as an engineer. She eventually got a promotion and became the manager of the company.
