As the Director of LINC, I led the team that verified the accuracy of burial and headstone placement through inspection for each gravesite using the cemetery layout maps, historical burial records, and printout from the Burial Operations Support System (BOSS). In doing so guided my senior staff through conducting a grave-by-grave, 100% assessment of the entire cemetery. My challenge was to coordinate and record the correction of these sensitive discrepancies. The corrective measures required family notification, the disinterment, and re-interment of remains with burials dating back over 40 years for some. I worked to prevent a media incident that would cause widespread speculation and further damage the VA in the public forum.

How does Hannah Kent make the landscape and weather an integral part of the novel?
The graves of many famous people are at Arlington Nationel Cemetary. It did not start out that way. In 1861, a Confederate General and his wife owned the house and the land. That General was Robert E. Lee. His house was across the river from Washington, D.C. The Union Army took over the land at the start of the Civil War. Union soldiers that were killed in the war was buried near the house. These soldiers were poor. Their families could not pay for them to be buried. Arlington was called a "potter's field." A potters field is a place where poor or unknown people are buried. After the war, something odd started to happen. Union officers asked to be buried at Arlington. They wanted to be near those men who had been in the war with them. Americans

Obviously, the Tomb of the Unknown is heavily guarded at all times, even during the atrocious weather that comes upon Washington, D.C. In the year of 1948, the Third Infantry, also known as the Old Guard, had received the responsibility of guarding the most important tomb in Arlington National Cemetery. The Third Infantry is very important because it is the only infantry unit allowed to march with bayonets on the rifles. Primarily, the Third Infantry’s responsibility are duties, for example, conducting all military funerals at Arlington National Cemetery, providing protection for the capitol building and providing an escort for the president of the United States. The most important honor that can be given to any soldier of the Third Infantry

The City of Miami Cemetery was built in 1897 during Miami’s pioneer era, as a result of tradeoff of ten acres of land territory, made by the City of Miami and one of the City’s founder families, the Brickell’s. The purpose of this funeral landmark was creating a place to commemorate people’s lives, as William and Mary Brickell wished. According to the data, it is the oldest and only municipal cemetery in Dade County. During 1897 and 1898 this place was laid out and divided into plots, this made easily the organization of the families who were buried. It provides a historical resemblance to the late 19th Century and the early 20th century when it comes to the architectural headstones and classical mausoleums of the Cemetery. Also has visual

The Sentinel guards watch over the Tomb 24/7 in any and all weather and when the cemetery is open or closed. I was able to talk to a former guard of the Tomb about his experiences. One of the first question that I asked was “How did you feel about your experience of being a guard and what was it like?” He told me that it was a great honor for him to be a guard. To him it is one of the greatest honor in the military that he had received. He explain the system of how the guards change out. It works on a three team rotation with 24 hours on, 24 hours on, 24 hours on, 24 hours off, 24 hours on, 96 hours off. During his off time he was expected to complete training and he said it could take him up to eight hours to prep his uniform for his next guard shift. As a guard you are expected to stand out there in any type of weather. It doesn’t matter if it is 90 degrees or if it is snowing. As a guard you are expected to stand out there on your shift and guard the Tomb. As a guard you take pride in what you are doing. When you are out there he could honor and remember these men in place of their families who never knew what exactly happen to
There are beauties unknown deep in the ground of Concordia. Stories that have been altered over the course of time and history that has tailgated behind these tombstones of deceased bodies. Gunfighters who thought they would rule the world were slain by the scythe of death. They were once owners of land, beholders of beauty, famous gun ringers, loving family members, and burdened veterans of war. Concordia Cemetery, the land that once gave birth to crops now lays burdened with the segregation of death, where even then people were all divided by their race, credentials, ethnicity and even gender. Gunfighters were caged underneath their tombstones where people were sure that they wouldn’t rise again.
On a solemn note, Fairview Cemetery in Bastrop is honored with a Texas Historical Marker. It is perhaps the final resting place of different ethnic groups, famous early pioneers of Texas and ordinary men and women who went about their daily lives, all of whom contributed to the dream that is Texas and helped make it the great state it is today. One area within Fairview is particularly touching because it is dedicated to the War Babies who are watched over by a large angel statue . During World War II more than 300,000 soldiers trained at Camp Swift near Bastrop, many of whom were joined by their wives during their training. Sadly, some of these families suffered children who died while their parents were at Camp Swift. Some of these families
Projects like the Shearer Cemetery Restoration are beneficial to the community and the students who engaged in the project in several ways. It allows students and residents of the community to acquire community service hours, which some schools make a requirement to graduate. It restores historical parts of the community, that are in disrepair. Also, with the Shearer Cemetery project in particular, it allows the residents that participate to learn about the early history of their own community. Going in to this project, I thought it would just be us wondering around a small section of woods looking for tombstones, I also thought there would be a lot less people partaking. I actually have some friends that have taken Mighigan history and

For both members of the Native American and African American communities the disturbance of the remains of those believed to be their ancestors might represent not only a spiritual upset but also a further example of racial and cultural discrimination (Sayer, 2010: 71). In addition, failure to properly connect with the two communities led to members of both communities voicing their feelings of discontent over issues of civil rights and discrimination. Thus, as a result of the failure to communicate and reach a common ground in both cases led to the many costly and lengthy legal battles. In both scenarios, the human remains that were uncovered became a political symbol that was used by both parties. Once this happens, there issue of how to
With the fast-paced globalization together with the heightening political economic issues of the world, it has brought forth the illegal immigrants to cross the Sonoran Desert of Southern Arizona, or as the anthropologist, Jason De León describes it, The Land of the Open Graves. However, there is more to unauthorized immigration than what meets the eye. Scratching the surface of the case of undocumented migrants reveals that it rooted from the intensifying global inequality and crisis of the world. Accordingly, the author’s decision to vividly depict the brutality beyond words the undocumented migrants had suffered while crossing the borders allows the readers to see the bigger picture behind illegal immigration, preventing further unnecessary deaths of the innocents.
