I was asked to read “A Christian Manifesto” by Francis A. Schaeffer and what follows is my take on the book. I will share a summary of what I have taken from the book, as well as explain the applications from the knowledge attained from reading the book.

The book seems to dive directly into its points so I will do the same. The book is all about government and the social standings of the time. It begins by addressing the beginning of the United States and how the founding fathers founded the nation on biblical principals. The founding fathers arrived in the United States and then begin to set up a government that was focused on the truth that God is king and no one is above his laws. There is a statement in the book that is simply Lex Rex which means “The law is king”. At the time this was written this was an earth shattering statement due to the fact that normally this saying would normally be switched, saying Rex Lex meaning “The King is Law”. The simple switching around of words from Rex Lex to Lex Rex changed the whole dynamic of government. This understanding that the government was based on God and is under God reveals as to the success of the nation all these years. Time went on and we then begin to run into trouble as ideals begin to rise that begin to go in a different direction then God. The time of having a complete belief in a total life with God in every aspect began to change, philosophies began to come up such as darwinism, which states that everything is really only occurring by chance and that the universe is as it always was and always will be.
