A Cleaner Future: A Comprehensive Pollution Prevention and Reduction Program
Introduction
Pollution is a major problem globally and it becomes greater as the human population continues to rise exponentially. One of the major problems with increased population is higher waste production, which creates increased air, soil, and water pollution. To resolve this problem waste reduction must be of primary importance in preventing and reducing pollution. Waste management can be an expensive undertaking if not managed correctly so sustainable practices must be addressed. While pollution prevention and reduction programs can be expensive if not managed correctly, waste reduction is essential for the reduction and prevention of pollution.

Recycling is an essential part of reducing the amount of waste filling up landfills. Recycling materials cannot only reduce waste but pollution as well. Unfortunately the typical recycling programs such as curbside pick-up and recycling centers require significant commitment from the public to be successful which generally leads to low participation. However there may be a solution to the problem. The pollution prevention and reduction program suggests the use of materials recovery facilities. Materials recovery facilities sort out recyclable materials from other waste products such as compostable items. By sorting out the waste at one central location more items get recycled and waste is reduced without public participation. A recent article by Wang (2010) suggests, “The installation of materials recovery facilities (MRFs) can be an alternative solution to the problem of low participation of voluntary household and curbside recycling in fast-growing cities.” Materials recovery facilities can be a viable solution for waste management problems where public participation is an obstacle. This solution also provides less societal impact because lifestyle change is not as critical.
Water preservation and conservation is a critical element in providing clean water for current and future generations. To accomplish this task effort must be placed on protecting local watersheds and natural forest catchment
The negative environmental issues can’t be stopped, however they can be reduced. There are several solutions to waste problems but the first step is to reduce the amount being
Recycling helps to alleviate the negative effects waste has on the environment. One way in which recycling helps the environment is by reducing pollution. There are various types of pollution. However, recycling targets and minimizes each one. Land pollution is a problem we are currently facing which is not getting enough attention. Land pollution is a very serious concern as it is the main environment for all humans and many animal, plant and insect species. Land pollution is not only caused from chemicals and waste, but land pollution is also classified as the destruction and degradation of the earth’s surface.
Recycling is presently one of the most controversial topics, considering that while most individuals put across their support regarding the act the number of individuals who actually do something in order to recycle is much smaller. Many people are currently unable or unwilling to recycle properly because the process often requires a series of changes in one's life. It is thus essential for the authorities to provide educational programs meant to assist individuals in understanding why recycling is important and in learning how to recycle effectively. People need to accept the fact that the benefits of recycling will reflect on the future and that conditions are currently critical as a result of the fact that the masses are generally unacquainted with the importance of this process.
While reading this assignment pollution is a major problem in our water supply. However, I believe there are some solutions out there that could cut down on the number of waste that enters our water source. Having our waters being polluted is no small matter, but I think a bigger problem is the consumption of water and the staggering amount of water we waste.
America currently has a growing population of over 300 million people. Every day the average American produced 4.4 pounds of garbage. As a nation Americans produced over 200 million tons of waste in 2013. Only 34.4 percent of that waste was recovered. Over 65 percent of that garbage is left to rot and pollute the environment. Many other countries face the same epidemic. There are many ways Americans can reduce pollution and keep our planet cleaner, one for those ways for instance is recycling. Recycling defined is to treat or process used or waste materials, to make suitable for reuse. The process starts by knowing what to recycle and how. Understanding the effects and benefits of reprocessing can persuade people to make
Catchments are depended on by the average household person, but even more valuable to the farmers that are supplying the food to our nation. Therefore, action must be taken to ensure that the catchments in our areas are healthy and will be able to be depended on for years to come. The panel at Healthy Water Ways program has developed a study to guarantee the management and sustainability of The Pioneer River catchment, by sending a team out to analyze the health of the water ways and decide on a proposal that best suits the area to ensure future healthiness of the basin.
Americans have yet to face the unnerving reality of the fact that “in 2008 only 7.1% of the 30.05 million tons of plastic waste in America was recycled” (Linn). This low percentage is shocking, outrageous, and should terrify the American public, but this number can change. Recycling is not just a feel good experience; it is a way to help save energy, space, and money. However, with the enormous amount of trash being thrown out each year, landfills are increasing in size creating numerous issues. The staggering amount of waste increases greenhouse gases, contributing to global warming and building up dangerous toxins that sink underground into our soil and water, overflows into wildlife habitats and oceans, and costs a large amount of money to remove. By fining residents who incorrectly dispose of recyclable goods, implementing recycling as a requirement in educational institutions and other business and residential settings, categorizing the
My first suggestion about encouraging people to recycle is to create a recycling team. Recycling team will be a group of people in every province to raise awareness about recycling, advantages of recycling, and disadvantages of disposal. They will be going to schools, colleges, and industries to make people and children aware of the negative effects of disposal, and acclaim them for the things they have recycled. My second suggestion is making local recycling centers. In every five square kilometers, a recycling center should be made. The job of recycling center would be collecting the garbage and recycling them to educational materials then distributing them to public schools. My final suggestion is the government should place four different garbage cans on streets. One for papers, one for plastics, one for hard materials such as glass and computer parts, and another one for materials which cannot be recycled. Placing these four garbage cans will help with the recycling center for collecting of garbage. It would be easy for them to recycle
Preventing waste is the most effective way to a greener and cleaner environment as it reduces or eliminates the existence of waste right from the source. Waste management is already a huge issue in our world and if we approach waste management with prevention we would leave no complications in terms of treating, disposing or controlling it. Less waste means less hazards to the environment and to the public health which is the aim of green chemistry. Waste production is inevitable in the industries that exist in
Therefore, it is important to maintain the health of watersheds as they provide many benefits to humans, animals, and agriculture. We can do so by bringing attention to the challenge of protecting streams, and identifying the problems that watersheds go through which can then be repaired.
The average resident produces seven and a half pounds of garbage every day that is buried down in landfills and litters lands costing a great amount of money. Nowadays, people face no more critical trouble than the need to save the weakening environment, mainly in urban areas, where solid wastes are uselessly dumped. It has been observed that cities have no controlled structure for garbage disposal. Each year, millions of dollars are spent picking up litter and more is thrown away in valuable materials that could be recycled. As humanity develops new technology and equipment, the level of waste increases every day. Due to the fact that there is a huge problem with garbage disposal, government representatives must contribute to resolving
We, humans, are producing waste every day, polluting and destroying our planet. To save the world, many people believe recycling is the obvious solution. It is the process of converting certain waste into a reusable material. Therefore, the recycle motto is “Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle”. However, have you ever wondered why the word recycle is placed at the end? Well, it’s because it is not the only way to reduce waste and save the world from global warming. Recycling may have many advantages, but its disadvantages’ list is not a short one either. Recycling may look very simple and easy method, but when there is a need for a new unit of waste recycling, it takes up a lot of space. Not to mention the amount of money the building costs along with paying the staffs, buying new utility vehicles, upgrading the recycling unit and different types of chemical disposals. It is not only expensive but also, unhygienic, unsafe and unsightly with piles of waste materials on every location. These wastes spread infectious diseases putting human health at risk. Aside from recycling
Performance 3 talks about how air, water, and land pollution can be enlarged by high activities in the economy and urbanization. Those events can also consume limited resources in a way that may threaten people and environment at the local, regional, and global level. This Performance standard main purpose and goal is to reduce pollution whenever and however possible to satisfy the objectives. There are three objectives of this standard and those are one, To avoid or minimize adverse impacts on human health and the environment by avoiding or minimizing pollutions from project activities, two To promote more sustainable use of resources, including energy and water” and three, “To reduce project-related GHG emissions.(EPH)
The second solution might be for the Environmental Protection Department to increase the number of recycling bins. As the recycling method might help to decrease the number of municipal solid waste in Hong Kong,
Residents following laws with the intention of development of town can reduce traffic jam in Samalkha town up to great extent. In order to provide training to drivers of motor vehicles, four Institutes of Driving Training and Traffic Research (IDTRs) are being established in the districts of the State such as Rohtak, Bahadurgarh, Bhiwani, Kaithal with a total budget of about 100 Crore Rupees, but few people’s approaching to these institutes in state. Table 2 shows charges for training in these institutes is quite low but still not many people coming to these institutions.
