According to the Corporation for National and Community Service, the state of Nebraska spends 61.3 million hours a year doing community service. It also take 20 hours to learn and know something very well, according to Forbes (Schawbel). With those two facts in mind, Nebraskan’s could have potentially learned 306,500 new things a year volunteering. When you 're introduced to something new, you will gain a lot experience or knowledge in that new area. Therefore, when we are spending that much time with our community, we will learn a lot about the people living in our community and test what we thought we already knew based on stereotypes. While giving yourself to your community during community service, one may find themselves further grasping, becoming a part of, and deviating norms throughout their involvement. I have taken part in a community service for many years that has taught me many things and given me insight into the community that I live in.

I have a unique background in community service. I am involved in an organization called Rebuilding Together. Through this organization I am on a team with my family members and family friends. My grandfather started this team, and after he passed away, my dad took over. This team has now transformed into a three generation team, going on for close to 15 years now.
