A Day of a Labor and Delivery Nurse Labor and Delivery nurse has always been my dreams for my career. I love kids, and have wanted to always do something with babies and wanted something in the medical field. Labor and Delivery happens to be the best suit for what I want to do with my future. Not a pediatrician, but just a nurse that works with babies. No way I could do the NICU, no way at all. I would go home from work every night and cry just because I wouldn’t know if those babies would make it a day, a week, a month or if they would see their 16th birthday. This summer I had the chance to shadow a live birth. During this time I knew this was exactly what I wanted to do. Wednesday, a misty morning on July 13th, 2016 was the morning I woke up at 4:45am just to be at Grant Hospital by 7:00am. That morning that I got out of bed to put on scrubs just like a typical day at school. I pulled my hair back with many hair ties and bobby pins into a messy bun, so I would not have to worry about my hair being in my face all day. As I hit traffic in Columbus, it me that I was going to hopefully be able to watch births today. I had all these pictures running through my head as what it would be like. I was nervous, not sure why I was nervous, but I was. The clock struck 6:30 am as I pull into the parking garage to park, I soon thought this is what I want to be doing in a few years every day.
