Abstract
The purpose of this concept paper is to provide an in-depth analysis of Wellness and how it is achieved and its relationship within the nursing profession. Wellness is a concept that is not easily understood because it is perceived differently by each individual. In today’s health care world nurses need to be competent in wellness promotion and how to provide holistic care in order for their clients to achieve optimal wellness. Wellness is multidimensional and consist of physical, emotional, intellectual, occupational, spiritual wellness. After reading this paper you will be able to define Wellness and its six dimensions. You will also understand the importance of wellness for the future of nursing education and practice.

Concept Defined The World Health organization in 1948 defined Health as “a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” and wellness are a continuum, one of the other. If health refers to the effective personal functioning, then wellness refers to this effective functioning and more (Maville & Huerta, 2008, p. 39). Wellness involves progress toward a higher level of functioning, the challenge to live at our full potential, and the integration of the whole being, including body, mind, and spirit, into the functioning process ( Maville & Huerta, 2008, p. 39 ). To completely define wellness you must define its six components that collaborate together for a person to achieve wellness. The occupational dimension recognizes personal satisfaction and enrichment in one’s life through work. The physical dimension recognizes the need for regular physical activity.
