Summary of A Good Man Is Hard To Find By: Flannery O’Connor In A Good Man is Hard to Find The grandmother is most excited about the family trip, even if she didn’t want to go to the destination. The family is going to Florida. She would rather visit her “connections” in East Tennessee. She tried her hardest to change Bailey’s , her son, mind about where to go and brings up a violent criminal she read about in the newspaper. He is often referred to as “The Misfit”. Bailey ignored her story and off to Florida they went. John Wesley and June Star , the grandkids, were very rude to the grandmother. They always shunned her for family events and wasn’t fond of her. During the trip the grandmother talked endlessly about things like interesting details of the scenery and warns Bailey about his highway safety . Nobody paid her attention. She always compared how different life is now and she was a con artist. She made things sound appealing to everyone except Bailey. On the way to Florida, she convinced her grandchildren to beg their father to visit a old house she said she remembered seeing when they stopped at the restaurant . While driving down the dirt road she believed it was on, the cat scared Bailey and they wrecked the car. Soon a hearse-like vehicle approached and it so happened to be the Misfit. He slowly kills each of them off as sacrifices and says ‘the grandmother had the potential to be a good woman, if it had been somebody there to shoot her every minute of her life.” In the short story, there are many different topics that can be discussed/analyzed.
