The title of this story is A Long Way Gone, it is a historical memoir written by Ishmael Beah. This story was published on February 15th 2007 by Sarah Crichton Books.

2.What is author’s purpose for writing the book? Write a paragraph summarizing the main argument or purpose.

Author Ishmael Beah’s purpose for writing this memoir was to share about his extraordinary life story. In an author interview, Ishmael explains that he felt a calling to bring awareness to the effects of war on humans around the world. He writes this memoir of his experiences of being a boy soldier, running away from war, and the many people around him who suffered through a similar journey. Speaking from his heart at the UN Economic and Social Council regarding war especially the recruitment of young boys marks Ishmael’s starting point of inspiring others and opening up about his tragic life events. Ishmael wants to help prevent these horrible things from happening and to help people like himself who have been through traumatizing events.
