A Miracle on Hudson
¨A hero is somebody who is selfless, who is generous in spirit, who just tries to give back as much as possible and help people. A hero to me is someone who saves people and who really deeply cares.¨- Debi Mazar
Debi Mazar’s quote explains exactly what a hero named Chelsey Sullenberger did. Chelsey woke thinking it was just another day but this was his last day at the job. After this trip he would be a retired pilot.
¨Lorrie where’s my suitcase¨he called.
¨Honey check under the bed¨ she replied.
¨You’re never wrong¨ Chelsey replied.
After saying his goodbyes Chelsey Sullenberger boarded the flight and got into the cockpit. When all of the passengers boarded the flight he slowly took off. When he was still on the runway in LaGuardia New York, 3 minutes in the flight, a flock of geese decided this would be the perfect time to go to the other side of the runway. SInce the geese flew on the other side while the plane was still in action some geese got caught in the engine. Later they would find out that the geese caused a problem in the engine making both engines useless very quickly. Six minutes in the flight he found out about the engines.

We're turning back towards LaGuardia." he reported. Passengers and cabin crew later reported hearing "very loud bangs" in both engines and seeing flaming exhaust, then silence from the engines and smelling the odor of unburned fuel in the
The plane that he was in got shot up by enemy Japanese planes while he was trying to get the doors where the bombs were released to open, but he couldn't manage to close them. Most of his crew got shot up at the end of the fight, but the injuries weren’t fatal. Louis was fine and so was the pilot but the plane had got shot up and the brakes didn’t work so the pilot had to attempt to land the plane without the brakes. Luckily the pilot managed to land the plane with the help of some rocks stopping the plane. After this incident Louis managed to hit a 4:12 mile beating his old record at the base he was at. Phil later on came to Louis with a new crew and told him that they were assigned to go on a rescue mission for survivors of a plane that had not come back after it was deployed. They had to go search the ocean with binoculars taking turns. At one point in the search the planes’ engine went out and they had to prepare to crash in the ocean. Only 3 out of the ten crew members on the plane survived the brutal crash. The people who survived were Phil the pilot, Francis a tail gunner, and Louis the bombardier. They stayed afloat by dragging each other onto two life
As they flew over the Canadian Wilderness, the worst thing that could possibly happen to the pilot, happened. “He stopped as a fresh spasm of pain hit him. Even Brian could see how bad it was--the pain drove the pilot back into the seat, back and down.” (page 10). This was the start of the symptoms for a heart attack, the pilot was having a heart attack. All Brian knew about the plane he was in was a brief lesson from the pilot and what he had read in books. “He was flying but did not where, had no idea where he was going. He looked at the dashboard of the plane, studied the dials and hoped to get some help, hoped to find a compass, but it was all so confusing, a jumble of numbers and lights.” (page 16). Once he had the plane in control, he had to use his knowledge to land. As a result of the heart attack, this was the start of the longest 54 days of his life, he was all alone
Heroes come in different shapes, sizes, and looks. Maybe someone you saw on the street one day was heroic for saving someone’s life in a car accident. A hero to me is someone who can be brave in situations that aren’t so safe, and take a risk to make sure everyone is okay, no matter who
Chesley Sullenberger was a pilot for Pacific Southwest airlines for twenty nine years before the Hudson River crash. He was departing from LaGuardia Airport when the plane collided with a flock of Canada Geese, causing the engines to fail. With lots of training and quick reflexes, he was able to turn the plane around and make a controlled water landing on the Hudson River, and saved all one hundred and fifty five passengers on board. He then became a hero and instant celebrity for the act and retired a year later to become an international speaker on airline safety. After thirty years as a commercial pilot, he concentrated on running his safety consulting business, Safety Reliability Methods Inc., which he founded in 2007.
“A hero to me is someone who saves people and who really deeply cares.” A quote from actor Debi Manzar. A hero is not just someone who receives praise. A hero is someone who truly helps another, even in a simplistic way. A leading cause for someone to be a hero can stay under the radar.
The fact that there was seventy four people on board that day is astonishing. Only six people that were on that plane survived, and it’s eye opening to hear or read this man's story. Roger Rosenblatt’s story is very eye opening and it shows that you should live life to the fullest. He titled the story “The Man in The Water” because they didn’t know who it was that risked his entire life for those six people. Many people, including me, would be confused as to why he wouldn’t didn’t take the rope after the others. The man really didn't think about himself, he were to he would have taken that rope. Many people really only think about themselves, and those six people that were saved, should respect that they are still alive and that man risked his life to save all of
They answered back by asking where he was and what were the conditions. Th radio lost the signal and Brian was stuck flying the plane. Brian flew for about three hours till he realized he was going to run out of fuel. There was only one thing to do in the middle of the wilderness with only trees everywhere. He would have to cr!
A rocket explodes and its crew are dispersed through space in many directions. Stone asks Hollis how long they can talk by phone, who calculates an hour. Stone is heading to the moon, while Hollis is heading to Earth, where he knows he’ll burn upon entering its atmosphere. Stimson can’t stop talking of how it’s a long way down, unable to believe what happened. Hollis tries to talk him into calm but is antagonized by Applegate, who goads Hollis further by pointing out he can’t be stopped from saying what he likes. Soon after, two of the men began to scream; one of them came close to Hollis, who decides to put him out of his misery by breaking his glass faceplate. Applegate then calls out to Hollis; when the captain interferes, Applegate tells
During World War II Louis and the rest of his crew were in the Green Hornet flying over the ocean looking for survivors of a missing plane. The Green Hornet lost control and crashed into the Pacific Ocean with three survived, but only two survived
A hero is a man of courage and ability who is admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities. A hero is a person who does not come along very often in any time period. He is a special person, who is a step above the average person in the way that he handles any situation that may arise.
This film, billed as “the untold story behind the miracle on the Hudson,” stars Hanks as Captain Chesley ‘Sully’ Sullenberger, the pilot who landed his aircraft on the Hudson river after a freak accident in 2009. Rather than simply telling the story leading up to the “forced water landing,” however, the picture chronicles the tumultuous aftermath of what
That is what happened to the famous aviator, and his wife’s 20 month old baby.
A few days later Lovell and his crew take off on the Apollo 13 mission. At first all is well until the second oxygen tank explodes, causing many problems for the crew; the most potent problem being that the crew was losing oxygen fast. Luckily, due to much ingenuity by the crew and mission control, the crew is able to arrive safely to earth without the deaths of any astronauts.
The plane was severed in half and blood stains filled the center aisle. Passengers were filled with the urge to yell at the sight of such a horrific scene, however a crippling, yet tense silence filled the atmosphere. Bodies, cold and unconscious, were thrown onto the floor, where they laid at peace. I rubbed my eyes and found myself with drops of red brownish blood covering my hands. I tried to forget about my injuries and focused on finding safety. Unscathed children waited outside the aircraft impatiently in the hopes of recognizing a familiar
