This paper serves multiple purposes. It will provide an overview of the UW Medicine/University of Washington Medical Center, the services they give, organizational structure, mission, vision statement, and charity care policy, strategic plan for the future, steps the organization is taking to prepare for the future of the Affordable Care Act and how it has impacted the Medical Center in these last two years. Concurrently, this paper will investigate what it would mean financially to start a new massage therapy service line. We will explore the financial health of the institution through an in depth analysis of their financial statements and ultimately determine the steps needed to improve their operations. Organization overview The University Of Washington Medical Center started as one of the smallest facilities in the country. Currently they are the nation’s leading academic Medical Center. They provide focused medical care in cardiology, high-risk pregnancy and neonatal intensive care, oncology, orthopedics and organ transplantation. Their mission is simple yet profound. They state that the “University of Washington Medical Center Improves Health by Providing Exceptional Patient and Family Centered Care In an Environment of Education and Innovation.”(2016 page 1) Their vision is more expansive, but compliments their mission well.
