Most college students are piled with difficult work each week. Collection of assignments, are stack carefully on the students desk ready to be completed. Let alone, a history professor later mentions that a test will be assigned in less than two days. The test makes a college student drown in caffeine;therefore, canceling all his plans due to planning a long marathon of studying. But luck has come along and studies of straight A’s students have shown effective ways to study for a test, which includes the steps of taking effective notes, finding a place to study, and reviewing for a test for an only short length of time.
To start of, the first step to study is to take good notes. Taking good notes on a computer will decrease the time of

Not only will finding a quiet place will help a student study, but finding different study places can keep a student's mind from burning out. Cal Newport interview a college student who explain that switching from study places can keep a student's mind from procrastinating. Doris a Harvard student endorse the idea, “to keep my mind stimulated, I regularly rotate between different venues” (qtd. in How to Become a Straight -A Student, 54). While changing places to study can make a college learner keep his mind from burning out. For example, if a student sits in the same chair and works for hours seeing the same thing, “a little procrastination devil,” as Newport describes, will lay on the students shoulder making he or she leave without doing any work. Particularly, study at a distant place. Newport, suggests getting drop off at a place far from home to study can benefit a student from leaving or getting distracted from friends or electronics. Newport suggests, “[i]t helps if your location is farther than walking distance from campus [...] arrange to be dropped off and picked up later, or choose a location that takes a while to reach by foot so you won’t be tempted to leave right away”(46). This method, helps students avoid procrastinating. While being away from a students home can isolate a student from his electronics and friends. In the end, finding the right place
After reading about the “six hour D”, I have been interested to see how my own studying techniques compare to that of a successful and comprehensive studier. When I study for tests, I typically read through all of my notes, each of the texts, and every one the power points before even thinking about self-testing. I realize now that going through large amounts of material without actually taking the time to see if I am truly grasping each idea included in the material may not be the greatest studying technique; since, even though I do self-test at the end of my studying sessions, I tend to wait till I believe I understand every part of the material.
As a busy mother, partner, worker etc. I find it hard to allocate appropriate time especially for studying.
Preparations for tests should ideally begin much earlier than shortly before the actual test taking period. Indeed, many students perform dismally in their tests because of their failure to understand this and many other principles of test and exam preparation. In addition to discussing how students should prepare for tests, this text will also identify the various strategies which should be embraced by students during test taking in an attempt to enhance performance.
Having no background on what the article “The Six Hour D… and How to Avoid It” by Professor Dewey is about leaves your mind guessing until you get around to reading it. This article is about study habits amongst college students. It discusses how many students claim to have spent a substantial amount of time studying but still receive a low grade; such as a D or F. Hence, “the six hour D” title. Professor Dewey shows ways in which students fall into “the six hour D” category and gives tips on how it can be easily avoided.
Studying by myself in a quiet room is most effective for me. There is less distraction, and it makes me be focused on my studying. If I want to study for a Biology class, I read the textbook. But if I want to study for math I do practice problems. I also don’t bring anything that I don’t need in my studying. This will reduce the distractions, and makes me finish my studying session faster. I try to think positive when I’m studying, it allows me to study efficiently.
Creating a study plan and planning my time realistically I think could improve the effectiveness of my studying sessions. Also studying effectively I can improve on. Last week I talked about concentration and all the barriers in my life that effect my studying. I think those barriers decrease how effective my studying is. Therefore I want to go to the quiet study zone in the library at school as much as I can to hopefully get more out of my studying. In the Nurse Tim Student Success Six Pack video on test prep the speaker discussed short studying sessions to be highly effective. I tend to sit and study for hours rather than short times. Short study sessions are supposed to help to retain information better. I will try and implement short study
From an early age, it is drilled into our heads: Restlessness, distraction, and ignorance are the enemies of success. We’re told that learning is all self-discipline, that we must confine ourselves to designated study areas, turn off the music, and maintain a strict ritual if we want to ace that test, memorize that presentation, and create writing assignment.
In classrooms all across America, students sit perched over their desks in the process of taking standardized tests. As the students take the tests, teachers pace nervously up and down the rows of their classroom, hoping and praying that their students can recall the information which they have presented. Some children sit relaxed at their desks, calmly filling in the bubbles and answering essay questions. These children are well prepared and equipped to handle their tests. Other children, however, sit hunched over their desks, pondering over questions, trying to guess an answer. They struggle to recall information that has been covered many times in class, but they can’t.
Students in America want to perform well during their school time, so they have a chance of getting a scholarship at best universities in the country. A lot of young Americans spend all their nights preparing for exams, because they can’t do it in the afternoon due to their sports and social life. Therefore many a night are spend studying hard for exams, so the teacher will not fail them and by that prevent them from getting their dream education. However, this tight and packed schedule causes the young Americans to get really exhausted and overloaded, and later on it might even cause cases of stress. In the meantime, this complex of problems seems to have got a solution. A solution that is so effective that most people never would have
In the book, How to Get A’s in College: Hundreds of Student Tested Tips, college students share their positive and negative study habits and tricks they use to make the most of their study time.
Another good step to take would be trying out different times to study during the day. That way I can see what works best for me. By (day): Friday
Few days a week I have an hour or two breaks in-between the classes, which gives me a chance to get a cup of coffee and grab a bite or read before the next class. There are so many places on campus where you can sit and relax, eat or study. I found my favorite spot, right next to C 459, social sciences department. It is very light, big hall with soft chairs, tables, chargers for laptops and phones. It is quite there too unlike atrium in the E building and cafeteria in the C building. So most of my free time I like spend in that cozy sitting area (as it is hard for me to concentrate in crowded places), or wander around exploring new places.
Fourth, study throughout the course; do not wait till the last day before the test to sit and cram your notes. In order to follow your course material schedule, you will have to decide approximately how many hours you will need to study for tests. Get a calendar and clearly mark off the hours each week that
Similarly, Tests are a way to ensure students are keeping up with the material. Tests can be worth as much as 40% of the possible grade in the class; therefore, it keeps students fully aware that they must study in order to do good on the test or else receive a negative grade. In my experience, every assignment that has a big impact on my grade is on my high priority list, Therefore I study as much as I can. I even stay up for hours at night.
A major part of college is the all night study sessions before a test. These all
