"Treat the Earth well. It was not given to you by your parents. It was loaned to you by your children." Kenyan proverb.
Solutions are like people, each one is complex as well as different. Most every part time environmentalist can have a solution to any environmental problem that ails this planet. That is not to say that they are always right. Conversely, they are not always wrong either. Having the solution is the first part, making the solution a reality is the second. Water pollution is a problem that most everyone would agree does exist. The toxic substances in the water can kill the plant life, animal life, and in some cases, the human life. In Teluk Mengkuang, Sijangkang, 156 ponds filled with tiger prawns died

That is three times the legal limit of 0.10 in the state of Alaska (Dorfman 1). Since water pollution was not even a concern till about 20 years ago, we are paying for mistakes of the past as well. For years the oil refinery business went unregulated and companies dumped their products where they chose. This problem has built up into waste dumps that no one knows what to do with (Schou 2). Papua New Guinea was the victim of a California firm promising hopes “to build a $38 million detoxification plant to process 600,000 metric tons of toxic waste a month” (Lewis and Chepesiuk 2). This was a scam because the majority of the waste was shipped before the plant was built with promises that it would be built in the near future. Also, over half the chemicals could never be recycled and would be harmful to the oceans.
Now we have established what the harms and causes are for water pollution, we move on to the question of why they are not being cleaned up? That is easily answered in one word: money. It is estimated to cost between 20 to 30 million dollars to clean up a minor waste spill into the ocean. (AED 1) Another situation that arises is that the companies and individuals responsible for this refuse to pay for the clean up. They would rather fight the issue in court or litigation spending 40 to 80 percent of the total cost of the site clean up in court fees, transaction
Hazardous wastes are another problem for the water in our world. These wastes are toxic, reactive, corrosive or ignitable. Most problems come from humans not storing the substance properly or not disposing of it correctly. This can be easily proven in 1969, when the Cuyahoga River, in Cleveland, Ohio, caught on fire and burned for sometime. Since this happened environmentalists have taken extreme measures to reduce the amount of pollution that is coming out of the power plants that are on the river and on Lake Erie.
Caring for this earth is a duty of our faith and a way to respect God’s creations. Regardless of a person’s background, culture, or religious preferences, we are all called to protect the planet on which we live to preserve the future of the earth. As stewards and stewardesses called by God to share the responsibility for the future of the earth, we must work to protect all of creation for the sake of future
Water is probably the most important resource we as people have. Humans can survive without food for several weeks, but without water we would die in less than a week. On a slightly less dramatic note, millions of liters of water are needed every day worldwide for washing, irrigating crops, and cooling industrial processes, not to mention leisure industries such as swimming pools and water-sports centers. Despite our dependence on water, we use it as a dumping ground for all sorts of waste, and do very little to protect the water supplies we have.
Water pollution has become a major problem in our water sources. People think that when they litter or dump in our waters that their little contribution will not hurt anything, but everyone’s little contributions add up to some major problems. Our water ecosystems and the species that reside in them are being destroyed and we need to take the steps necessary to stop this. Why would anyone use the source of most of the world’s food as a dumping ground for garbage? People need to start realizing what it is they are doing when they do not take the proper steps to dispose of their garbage and the problems they are making for the future.
TRASH! TRASH! TRASH! Regardless of environmental laws that protect the quality of streams and lakes, garbage often ends up in our waters. Most of the trash comes from people who fish or participate in other forms of water-related recreation. Regardless of the source, trash is a form of water pollution. The most important issue facing us is the preserving of our waterways for future generations to enjoy. There are several things which can be done to make a difference regarding this issue so we will have a lifetime to enjoy our beautiful rivers and lakes.
Water pollution impacts how humans and other living organisms live their life. Most common way humans are effected by water pollution is through diseases while drinking the water. Scientists have found over “five hundred different types of diseases” that can affect humans. (Book). These diseases get into the water streams by human and animal wastes. The diseases in the water can often lead to death for humans. Recent research has shown that that each year
This pollution also does harm to the nature resources all around us which affects our daily lives. Having dirty rivers because the death of fish will cause a chain reaction where the seals in the rivers will not have food to eat as well as humans. Not being able to fish causes less food on people’s dinner plate. As well as local business who depend on the river staying clean and providing them business for anglers to come and buy bait. This will also affect restaurants that depend on local fisherman who supply them with their daily seafood which they sell to their customers. Having less seafood will mean the closing down of business as well as not being able to eat fish which consumers will then turn to meat which will deplete thru resources even quicker. Having pollution in the bodies of water on the earth would be the worst situation since humans need water to live and survive. If all of the natural water sources have pollution in them; life on earth would cease to exist. This chain reaction all starts from one person littering and killing one
According Oraclethinkquest, "Water pollution has the potential to have a harmful effect on all living things including plants and animal species. Chemicals, radioactive waste, industrial waste in the water can affect species and their development. There is no
When we talk about how water is being polluted we just justify ourselves saying that there is a lot of water in this world and that a little bit of it getting damaged doesn’t matter at all. To understand the consequences of water pollution we first have to know what water pollution is and how it happens. Water pollution is the contamination of water bodies like lakes, rivers and oceans. This form of environmental degradation occurs “when pollutants are directly or indirectly discharged into water bodies without adequate treatment to remove harmful compounds” (“Wikipedia”). Chemical waste from factories is sometimes dumped into rivers and lakes. These chemical
In Colorado EPA accidently leaked about 3 million pounds of toxic waste into Arizona, New Mexico and Colorado Rivers. Even though they both of the situations have been tragic accidents, however it could have been easily avoided if they had been more careful. For the beach, the last time the business had checked the pipeline was about 3 years ago, with that amount of time you should be required to inspect it. Everyday it seems like the situation with our water gets worse, Businesses are still being fined, however they are not suffering huge consequences of their actions, and many places such as have no choice but to dump their waste into rivers, because they have to repair sewers and update them, because the hazard could even be worse if not taken care of properly. Thus the status of water pollution still gets worse over time, business do not care they can handle the fee and sites that are causing pollution do not prepare or attempt to take care of the situation at all, and thus eventually the part that is preventing the pollution will break and cause a safety
Rather than simply falling into the common perspective of feeling that it is all right to dump waste into their water in light of the fact that there is no law against it; one may take a gander at from a Christian perspective. The Christian perspective would help one to see that since something is satisfactory by the world does not make it all right. Because the world perspectives something as all right does not mean God does. God has given this wonderful spot to us to live; it is silly for it to be obliterated by things that we could be stray away from. In the event that one needed to look much further into the contamination issue, similarly as dumping waste into water and dirtying the air, he would see that in John 6:12 Jesus' ordered us to "Let nothing be squandered." "As the overseers of God's creation, we have to respect Jesus' charge," (Hamel, 2002). Rather than dumping, waste into a lake, there possibly some way an organization could take what is not being utilized to create something else. The organization may even have the capacity to make its item out of something recyclable so it can be reused and not squandered. Natural issues are only one thing that individuals working in the business world assume are not essential, the length of it however is not
Water pollution has had devastating effects on the environment, which include irreversible effects to the ocean's ecosystem, health problems and abnormal conditions.
It has no taste, no smell and no color. We find it in tanks, ponds, wells, rivers and springs. Almost three-fourth of the earth is water. Millions of years ago human beings used water for all rare reasons. Up till now people don't appreciate how precious water is. Saving water at home does not require any significant cost but there are many ways we can save water through our actions.
A reason that water pollution is a problem today is because many people don’t realize that they are hurting out water supplies when they really are. There are many pollutants that hurt our water supply such as farming. When farmers spray their fields with chemicals and apply fertilizers. Some of these chemicals reach the river, and animal urine and manure may be washed into the river. Another cause of water pollution is from accidents, such as tanker spills. Accidents with chemicals may cause river pollution as well. Mining can be another cause because the dusts and minerals get washed into the rivers. Seepage is another cause of water pollution. Because chemicals from waste dumps join the groundwater flow into the river. Urban Wastes is a major cause because the sewage comes from toilets, sinks, and industrial processes. This causes many human diseases such as diarrhea, dysentery, hepatitis, and cholera.
