Technology has evolved in various ways over time. As many of us know medicine is a huge part of our lives that chemistry has advanced, along with various other things we need. Another thing chemistry has improved is batteries or fuel cells, like what is in a TV remote or a car. Also chemistry has helped improve gasoline for automobiles and other necessities for everyday use. This includes gasoline, jet fuel, kerosene, and diesel. A hydrogen fuel cell is what converts chemical stored energy by hydrogen fuel into electricity. Hydrogen fuel is very similar to normal batteries like what we would find in a car or a clock, but differences are present between the two. Without these there would be no fuel cells. I believe this discovery will be a real breakthrough in society since the resources needed to fuel the cells are generally easy to come by. In my opinion, everyone eventually will convert to this in the future for better quality and more cost efficient in the long run. Hydrogen fuel cells are also combustible and do not produce green house gasses or other pollutants. Gasoline was not invented, just improved so it could be used for of course automobiles and other things we all use. Gasoline is a natural by-product of the petroleum industry. It is produced by distillation, the separating of the volatile, more valuable fractions of petroleum. Gasoline at first could not be used in automobiles. For them to work in anything many agents and processes were created with gasoline, making it a better product. Even with improvements refineries could not convert oil to gas as fast as cars were being sold. Even more refining was needed to stop engines from knocking and increase better engine efficiency. As engines were advancing the gasoline put through them also had to be upgraded. The processes that were invented to improve the yield of gasoline from crude oil were known as cracking. In this refining process, cracking used heavy hydrocarbon molecules to break up lighter molecules by means of heat, pressure, and catalyst.
