A Car Rental Company, originally known as “Executive Leasing Company”, named after aircraft carrier USS Enterprise was established in St. Louis Missouri in 1957 by Jack C. Taylor with a seven – vehicle fleet and goes by the slogan “We’ll pick you up.” In addition to car rental, it also oversees commercial fleet management, used cars and commercial truck rental operations. It is the most widespread car rental company in the U.S. with 5400 “home city” locations and 419 airport locations. It also operates 600 offices in Canada, Germany, the United Kingdom, and Ireland. The business was vastly different from business and leisure travel rentals, and Hertz quickly found the profit margins to be too low. Hertz Corporation then decided to pull out of the market by the end of the decade, and National 's operations struggled to stay afloat. Enterprise, meanwhile, began cultivating a market called "discretionary rentals" which offered cars at low prices and aimed at families visiting relatives, or kids coming home for the holidays. Later in 1996 Enterprise became the fifth largest car rental chain leaving behind Hertz, National, Avis, and Budget. Some of its achievements are: (1) Recognized 7 times by J.D. Power & Associates as highest in consumer satisfaction. (2) Official corporate partner of NCAA, NHL & NHLPA. (3) Named by the “Entrepreneur Magazine” as the “Best Rental Car Company” three years in a row. (4) In 2006, Business Week listed Enterprise among top 10 places to begin Career.
