Formula one (F1) championship was the second most watched sporting event on the planet, which estimated 110 million unique viewers per race. Lotus F1 team is one of the most successful F1 team. It had won respectively 7 constructors’ world titles. And it had won two world title. When they were fighting for third place in the Championship, an awful news that the 2014 season would bring a bunch of disruptive changes came out. What’ s worse, its best driver, Kimi Räikkönen, had announced that he would leave the team at the end of the 2014 season. This case mentioned many issues, like driver management issue, budget management issue, and etc. In the following essay, I list two alternative to solve these issues, and then I also give some criteria to evaluate these alternatives. In the end, I also give my own way to implement my recommendations. Problem Statement Lotus F1 team was a British formula one racing team. It had a strong racing heritage and had won two World Titles under the Renault name in 2005 and 2006. It had contracts with two primary drivers and three test drivers. When Lotus F1 was fighting for third place in the championship, a thunderbolt jumped out and posted a big and common problem to every F1 team. Three major problems were presented by this case: driver management issue, budget management issue and product design issue.
