The agency provides law enforcement and security services in the protection of government employees and GSA owned and leased facilities. The main product offerings are:
• Enforce Federal Laws, conduct criminal investigations, serve warrants through law enforcement authority granted by the Secretary of Homeland Security derived from Section 1315 of Title 40 (40 USC 1315) of the United States Code.
• Provide law enforcement coverage for high security events to include major sports events such as the Super bowl and Final 4.
• Provide special operations utilizing FPS K9 support.
• Law enforcement response to crisis events and natural disasters.
• Provide training to tenant agencies in crime prevention, active shooter and Occupant Emergency Plans (OEP).
• Conduct Facility Security Assessments (FSA) for government tenants.
• Provide armed contacted security services for federal facilities.

The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) is the third largest police agency in the United States. The LAPD has approximately 9885 sworn officers and 2718 support staff. They cover approximately 500 square miles and is for the protection of over 4 million people. With that in mind, managing such a behemoth agency is a complicated and problematic endeavor. Therefore, one of the LAPD strengths is the way they manage themselves and protect citizens. Another strength of the LAPD is created many various kinds of investigation divisions, bureaus unit and special operation units. The components allow the LAPD to address a different kind of crimes, services, and investigation. Some of these components are specialized units with members that specially trained to for the unit's purpose or the specific type of crime or investigation. For an example, they have counter-terrorism bureau, background investigation unit, commercial crime division, gang and narcotic division, juvenile division, robbery homicide division and also technical investigation division. The LAPD also addresses the needs of the community by setting up many stations to handle the needs of their constituents. The LAPD also has a support unit to manage the day to day operation such as the personal division, jail division, property division and administrative section to manage massive bureaucratic tasks.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security was formed more than a decade ago with a very significant mission of safeguarding America's homeland from hazards, threats, and national disasters. This department conducts its mission through securing the country's borders, preventing terror attacks, and responding to incidents or threats to its citizens (Miller, n.d.). Generally, the most important roles of the Department of Homeland Security are to lead a concerted national effort in securing the United States and preserving the American way of life. The department was established in 2002 in reaction to the 9/11 terror attacks and has since developed a nationwide strategic plan for evaluating and updating its mission statement and effectiveness of operations. These plans can be updated and transformed to accomplish the needs of the Department for Homeland Security and the American people.

Police organizations achieve this by safeguarding life and property, maintaining public order, and through detecting and preventing crime.
