INTRODUCTION Google began as a research project by Larry Page and Sergey Brin when they were pursuing their PhD in Stanford University in January 1996. They found a new technology called PageRank, where it determined a website’s relevance by number of pages rather than the conventional counting mechanism of search terms in the page. Initially they named their search engine BlackRub but eventually they changed it to Google and the domain was registered on September 15, 1997. The company started in the garage of a friend on September 4th, 1998. The number of unique visitors surpassed one billion members for the first time in May 2011. The office was called as GooglePlex. Since 2001, Google acquired many companies, obtained many patents and started research in many different fields other than software industry. One major company which Google launched Calico, where health and wellbeing is the motive to fight against harmful diseases. Google made a deal with GeoEye to launch a satellite which gives high-resolution images. The satellite was launched from Vandenberg in 2008. Presently Google is operating nine Global data centers across the globe. Strengths of Google • Regular penetration: Google as a company started with software industry, although their most part of the work is in software field. They are expanding at a rapid level to other service domains too like Artificial intelligence, human diseases, and astronomy. • Excellent Service and Ad Sense: Google provides excellent service to customers, the advertising platform is the major program on the web. Till date, many competitors tried to overcome but they can’t even match to the standard Google provides. It’s their search algorithm which stands unique than other search engines. • YouTube: It is an extension to Ad Sense, and it provides a medium for people to create videos. YouTube is becoming more famous than Google, it has equal number of hits for the website compared to Google. Some of them are even using it as a source for search engine. • Android: Google rules the mobile industry with its free open source software.
