Essay Question: Explain a significant theme in a sacred text within a religious tradition

Salvation History begins at the time of the Fall of Adam. In the Garden of Eden, Eve was tempted by the serpent, Satan, to partake of the fruit of the Tree of Life, which God had told them not to eat from. Because Adam and Eve disobeyed, they became mortal. This meant they would grow old, make their own choices, through free agency, and pass away without ever being able to return Home to Father in Heaven. Heavenly Father knew that something needed to take place in order to “loose the bands of death,” to provide a way for His children to be saved. John 3:16 states “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” Through Mary, Jesus came into the world to redeem the salvation of mankind, by breaking the bands of death so that we can have eternal life, saving us from Satan’s work. This can also be seen through Genesis 3:15 saying “I will put enmity between the woman and you, between her seed and your seed; He will crush your head and you will strike his heel.” Mary plays an important role in Salvation History as; Theotokos (Mother of the Son of God), Mediatrix, First Christian and Role Model. This can be shown through sacred texts of the Catholic Tradition such as; Holy Scripture, The Catechism and Papal Encyclicals.
