By evening, the group had come across an old Georgia plantation home that was perched upon a hill, overlooking the small quaint town of "Magnolia", nestled safely at the bottom. Because the mansion was sitting atop a hill, the angle provided them with an excellent viewpoint. They would be able to see a herd coming for a mile and be long gone before walkers could shuffle to the top. They had pulled over to the side as Daryl and Rick had discussed the possibility of staying, and they had quickly agreed that it would be as good a place as any to stay for the night, maybe longer if things looked promising. Carol relaxed her arms from around Daryl's waist as the convoy came to a stop. She glanced up at the mansion and smiled. It was …show more content…
"My ankles are so swollen." She said with a grimace. "Hershel said if I propped them up, the swelling should recede." She shook her head with a small smile. "Rick, love his heart, hovers over me something awful. He insists that I prop my feet on the dash while we're driving." She walked on over to Carol and leaned against the bike. "That man is too good to me." Carol looked at the woman with envy and wonder. The whole time she had been pregnant with Sophia, Ed had made her life a living hell, more so than usual. The first five months, the beatings had been less frequent, some days the only thing she would receive would be the occasional slap. She had looked forward to those days. It meant that she would get a break from the pain he always inflicted upon her body, and if the least she got was a slap, then she considered herself lucky. However, at the beginning of her sixth month, the beatings began again. The day she had found out the baby she was carrying was a girl, her fear returned. She remembered walking home after her appointment, her stomach tied in knots and her hands trembling with nerves. When he came home from work that night, he had nearly killed her. He had been expecting a boy. Carol flinched at the memory of being tossed through their glass coffee table. It was a miracle that Sophia had survived. It was a miracle that she had survived. She remembered the warm blood dripping into her eyes as she stared up at
“We must tell people, Corrie. We must tell them what we learned,” said Betsie. The Hiding Place, by Corrie ten Boom, is the biography of a woman in Holland during the Holocaust. The book starts out in 1937, in Haarlem, Holland. Corrie and her family were Christians who hid Jews from persecution by the German soldiers. Corrie was forced to make decisions and take actions all throughout different periods in her life. When her mother fell ill, she learned to care for someone who couldn’t do anything for her. During the time when the family was hiding the Jews, she was forced to be brave and strong. Finally, when her family was taken to the concentration camps, Corrie, with the help of her sister
She walks into the living room where all her family was sitting, and they all look at her and ask “what’s the news?”. She was very disappointed in herself she thought how could she let it happen? she was too young at 16, she didn’t have a job, and she didn’t even know if the father was going to be there for her. The family looked concerned as she was about to burst into tears, her eyes filled with sadness, and then she said “I'm pregnant”. They all looked at her in disappointment, they thought she was going to be the one to pursue her dreams of becoming a nurse, to actually have a degree, but even though they were disappointed in her they knew that they had to help her raise the baby. She felt upset she didn’t know how she was going to do it while still going to school, she still had two more years ahead, and she was due late May. Even though she had her family who was supporting her she still had to take responsibility for her actions, she had decided that she would have to drop out of school, and start working to take care of her upcoming baby.
It seemed that she was excited about having a baby boy too. He knew that becoming a father was the best feeling in the world. He couldn’t wait to start a family. They would all be connected in a special way. The years would fly by, and like a young sapling, he would grow into a sturdy and strong young man. They would all reach hardships and conflicts, but that was all part of being a family. They would also grow closer as years passed, but when he grew up into a man they would fall apart again, and he would slowly slip away again. It was part of the human cycle, he thought. Soon, when he found a girl that was comely to him, he same thing would happen again. But, it was all worth it. The smiles, tears and love that everyone shared. It was all too bad that time couldn't wait for you. That was why you had to treasure, and savour while you can. He was sure that his life would take a turn when his son would finally be welcomed into the world by two loving and adoring parents.Sure, there would be stress, arguments and falling outs, but he was determined to smile throughout this rollercoaster time. He couldn't wait anymore, as he would be a father
I didn't know what to say to him. My mind was empty. I couldn't tell whether he was sad or angry. It was difficult for me to interpret his emotions. He was not the kind to sew his heart on his sleeve. Yet, I saw tears streaming down his cheek whenever he was all alone. I felt bad for him, for the boy whose parents had died in a storm.
An hour earlier, Sefa, their baby’s birth mother, had called Percival, crying that she was in pain and bleeding, afraid she was losing the
Throughout Bait, Diego makes some choices. Some of the choices are to be desired and some are the complete opposite. Whether it was a good or a bad choice, lots of his decisions have an effect on the setting, whether it makes Diego go somewhere else or it can sometimes change the mood of the setting that the book is in. The setting in the book never lasts very long whether it is home, juvie, court, a probation appointment, the beach, or school. You can never count out a change of setting in Bait by Alex Sanchez.
There was a blanket of darkness in the room; as if someone had woven the sky into a dark cloth and spread it over the room. It was cold. Colder than the frostbite slowly inching up Robert Peary’s leg. An icy blue flame was flickering above the wick of a well-used candle. The misty shade of purple from the curtains filled the room with a bleak atmosphere. On top of a wooden drinks cabinet sat a wireless whispering in the background of the room.

Bang! The pop of a gunshot is heard echoing through the hallways of your school. This sends the whole school into terror and panic mode. The threat of death is too real. The shooter comes raging into your barricaded classroom. Within seconds they begin shooting everyone and yourself. With a blink of an eye you and everyone in the classroom are dead. What could have stopped this person from shooting? Who could have stopped this person form shooting? What actions can be made from this event? One serious issue that threatens Columbia High School and other neighboring schools is school safety.
My third quarter reading workshop project for the book The Hiding Place, by Corrie Ten Boom, portrays how the non-Jewish people safeguarded the Jewish people hide from the Nazi’s during World War II. The house is a modern-1900’s Netherlands home, Corrie and her family lived in one of these houses. The house has two “secret” rooms, which has entrances that aren’t obvious for an inspector. These “secret” rooms represent the places where non-Jewish people hid Jewish people from the Nazi’s. This can be seen in The Hiding Place. Corrie, Betsie, and their father are talking about ways to help the Jews. The people with the yellow star of David are the Jew’s and the stars illustrate the discrimination that the Nazi’s made towards the Jews. The people
“I want to find out what’s up there.” As she drove to the tallest peak surrounding the town, she looked at the white fluffy clouds covering portions of the mountaintop before noticing the two-story house in the field and stopped. Looking at the tiles missing, the loose boards hanging from the roof, and the weeping willows with their long limbs wrapped around the house and the vines covering portions of the house gave it a true, ghost story façade.

Situational crime prevention constitutes primary crime prevention measure. This is to say that it is aimed at deterring crime before it occurs. Situational prevention, like other similar primary prevention measures, focuses on subduing crime opportunities instead of the attributes of criminals or even potential criminals. It seeks to curtail opportunities for certain groups of crime by increasing the risks and difficulties associated with them and significantly reducing the rewards. Situational prevention is made up of three key elements: a sound theoretical framework, an authoritative methodology for dealing with specific crimes, and a collection of opportunity-reducing approaches (Felson & Clarke, 1997).
The purpose of this report is to determine whether or not the environment within an episode of the television series “The Big Bang Theory” is considered a safe space. Understanding the connection between cultural capabilities with the ability to function effectively in a cross cultural community will determine if individuals within the series have cultural intelligence. In order for this to be achieved everyone
