I-Search Project: A Search for the Right Cure I know of basic brain cancer treatments such as chemotherapy and tumor removal, but once a brain tumor has been left untreated for an extended period of time, death is usually inescapable. Sometimes even when cured in time, the brain tumor may return later. I imagine that with theoretical future technology or recent technology, brain cancer may be fully treatable. As stated by President John F. Kennedy, “Efforts and courage are not enough without purpose and direction.” my efforts to complete this search would be meaningless without a direction. First, I decided it was best to understand the strength of the disease I was up against. To better understand, I searched online and I found Funk & Wagnalls New World Encyclopedia, for my understanding of the basic epidemiology of brain tumors. According to Funk & Wagnalls New World Encyclopedia, there are two types of brain tumors,“Benign brain tumors tend to grow relatively slowly and to remain confined to one location” and “Malignant brain tumors tend to grow more quickly and spread within the brain or spinal cord”(“Brain Tumor”). Malignant brain tumors have become my focus because the Benign tumors are not cancerous. Now that I have found my focus, I would like to search for risk factors.
