Task 1 – P1
LAN
Local Area Network or LAN. A LAN provides a network connection for a small geographical area such as one site or building (college, school, home or small office). A LAN allows to connect two computer systems, smartphones or any other devices together to share devices or data. For example, one computer system is connected to other computer system to share the same data. Also, there is a limited number of devices that can be connected to a Local Area Network system to share data.
WAN
WAN stands for Wide Area Network. A Wide Area Network is based on a large physical area. Wide Area Network are made from quite a few Local Area Networks connected together. Most WANs needs telephone line system to operate but they also could be connected via satellite. Wide Network Area is capable of covering multiple floor buildings, city, region or even country. But each site only may have one computer system. Topologies
Star topology is known as one of the most common network setups where each of the devices and computer systems on a network system connects to a central hub (network device).
A major disadvantage of this network topology is that if the central network device crashes, all computers and devices connected to that hub will be disconnected.
A major advantage of the star topology network is that it is very easy to connect new computer systems to network system. If one computer which is not the central device fails then the network connection will remain the
4)LAN (Local Area Network)-A LAN is a group of computers or devices connected together through a local network.LAN connections are usually very inexpensive. They are also usually very fast.LAN connections are usually within the same building.
“Networks are all around us. They are in our walls, in the air. At schools, hotels, hospitals, even coffee shops. Always there, always on…This power exists today. In our routers. In our switches... . (Cisco, n.d.)
A: LAN: LAN stands for Local Area Network. LAN is a network which cover a small area like colleges, schools or buildings.
A LAN is a ‘Local Area Network’. It is a small network of computers most often
In the design, the topology used is a star topology. The computers in every office or classroom are linked to the central device known as the switch. The star topology leads to the expansion of the network without any disruption. This defines the use of a hub, a router or a switch to interconnect various computers together. All the workstations in this topology are connected with a connection of point-to-point to the central device. The data is first passed through the primary device before reaching the planned destination. Hub controls and manages the whole network. The hubs connect several nodes that are present in the star system. The hub acts as the signal booster (Elhakeem, 2010).
It is generally limited to a geographic area such as a writing lab, school, or building. Rarely are LAN computers more than a mile apart. In a typical LAN configuration, one computer is designated as the file server. It stores all of the software that controls the network, as well as the software that can be shared by the computers attached to the network. Computers connected to the file server are called workstations. The workstations can be less powerful than the file server, and they may have additional software on their hard drives. On many LANs, cables are used to connect the network interface cards in each computer; other LANs may be wireless.
A Star topology is the second type of topology represented. This topology is easy to install as well as being easy to expand by connecting additional nodes or devices. Faults are easily detected and parts are easy to remove. In a Start topology, when devices need to be added or removed, it does not cause disruptions to the network. This type of topology is used for many different applications, ranging from small to large networks. (FCIT, Univ. of Florida)
In the star arrangement, there's a focal pc or server to that every one of the workstations are specifically joined. Every workstation is by implication associated with each diverse through the focal PC.
LAN stands for Local Area Network. LAN is a type of network that interconnects computers and devices either wired or wireless and covers a greater distance. LAN is mainly used in private organisations such as college or university. More or less everyone uses wireless router at home these days and the user is able to connect between 5-10 devices wirelessly. The user can share the broadband or the connection with ADSL by using Ethernet cables. Smaller LANs can connect at least
For example, the Sales and Marketing Division has a desktop computer for each of the account representatives. All of these computers are connected to a small local area network (LAN) that serves only the Sales and Marketing Division. The
Local Area Network or LAN for short is the term used for computer networks located at a single location such as a small business located at a singular location. They are generally used for businesses, organisations and the likes to transfer data amongst their systems as opposed to transferring data to outside of their location. A LAN typically will rely on wired connections due to the benefits of increased security and speed, but a network called a WLAN exists, which is a Wireless Local Area Network and this may prove useful for those who come to work using mobile devices such as laptops, phones, etc. WLANs are simply local area networks that consist solely of wireless connections using a wireless access point (WAP) as the central hub. However, LANs can be a mix of both wireless and wired.Typically in a LAN, systems connected to the network are able to share resources among each other, send data to servers and use peripherals such as printers, scanners &
Local area network (LAN) is a wireless network that is mostly used in a work place or small building. To be able to make this work, you will need an access point connected to a switch to create the wireless network. There are different types of hardware components that are used to set a wireless network up such as network adaptors, Ethernet cables and a hub.
Since every computer is going to be connected to a centralized node which usually are hubs or switches the topology can be defined as a star topology. The network design layout for the Adelphi building each node is going to be connected to a switch instead of using hubs.
Networks: wide-area network (WAN) a network that connects computers over a large geographic area, such as a state, province, or country. Local-area network (LAN) is a network that connects computers that are in close proximity to each other, such as an office building or a college campus.
A LAN is a network of computers in a specific area interconnect using a variety of network media. For example, WBHS LAN are all the computers connected to the WBHS network via Ethernet, Wi-fi or other. This is different from a WAN (Wide area network) which extends to a much wider area such as a town, city and country. LAN are usually more restricted in access and more numerous.
