DAAAAA DA DA DA DA DAAAAAAAA DA DA. I still remember the feeling in my stomach as I watched the flashing chandelier rise to the ceiling right above my head. To think that I did not want to be there in the first place. Boy had my mom proved me wrong. It had all started at my Grandparents 50th anniversary celebration… I sat in the corner observing my surroundings. A platter of food in the center of the square room. People gathered in small groups chatting waiting for dessert to come out. I am always stuck in the middle. I am too young to converse with the adults but I am too old to run around with the kids. So I sat there taking everything in. Eventually I became fed up with my isolation. I picked myself up and made my way over to where my mom was seated. Even though I wasn’t planning on socializing I would be content just listening to conversation. I was tuned out for the most part, humming the tune of a pop song I had heard on the radio. I would catch bits and pieces of what they were saying, but one hushed statement caught my attention. “I am really looking forward to surprising her.” My mom said. I don’t know if she knew I was eavesdropping or not. To be honest I felt guilty for listening, but I had nothing better to do,so I kept listening. “She will love it!” “It’s Right up her alley!” I heard all these words but didn’t have enough context to know what they were talking about. I stopped deciphering them and tuned back out. I was almost done slipping into my solitude
