As a student of Full Sail University I am completing the course of Audio Production. Growing up music was always an escape for me. My childhood was not perfect and sometimes the only thing I felt that could help me escape reality was music. Knowing how to sing, rap, and produce music by the age of 16 was my get away from the world. Developing the skill without a degree is one thing. I am attending Full Sail University to further my knowledge in this area of work and to also better my skills. Music is a major industry to work in. Not stopping there I also love to have my own brands and labels with all areas of work. This is why I look up to O’shea “Ice Cube” Jackson Sr. Ice Cube has come a long way from the 90’s. From making music to …show more content…
They were often harassed by police because of what the group represented with their gangster music.
Ice Cube took a break from the group to complete his degree in Drafting at The Phoenix Institute of Technology. Sometime after graduating Cube left the group in 1990. Due to having a son on the way and getting married after conceiving his son, Ice Cube felt his royalties were not given as they were promised by the group’s manager Jerry Heller. Lawsuits were made but the issue was solved outside of the courts jurisdiction . This caused controversy Ice Cube felt he was making too little for what work he put out. The group later ended in 1992 due to differences and many disputes between the group. A little after the group ended Eric “Eazy E” Wright became sick not knowing he had HIV. Sometime after splitting the group talked about having a reunion to make more music once again. This reunited some of the group members for sometime. 11 days after Eazy E found out he was infected he passed away from the AIDS virus.
Cube started his own solo career as an artist. Later to collaborate with ex group members Dr. Dre and DJ Ren Ice Cube’s first film “Boyz N The Hood” (1991) following his second film “Trespass” (1992). Later releasing songs such as “It was a good day” (1993) off of his #1 debut album “Predator”. Directing his first movie “Friday” (1995) and followed by one of his other most popular films “Players Club” (1998). With his
Gangs were a huge part of the 1920s/30s, and were first formed during the prohibition era. When the 18th amendment was ratified, there was even more crime and violence than intended. People would do anything for alcohol, so these gangs practically took care of that and made huge amounts of money. Even when prohibition was over, gang remained intact. Some famous gangsters, beides Bonnie and Clyde, were Al Capone, Baby Face Nelson, and Machine Gun Kelly.
Ice Cube left in December 1989 over royalty disputes;[3] having written almost half of the lyrics on Straight Outta Compton himself, he felt he was not getting a fair share of the money and profits.[18] He wasted little
During his early years he dropped out of high school and was a drug dealer for some years. He was good friends with Ice Cube and Dr. Dre. They started making songs for their new album that was called “Boyz-N-The Hood”. In 1987 they made another album that was called “Straight Outta Compton” that album
I invested a lot of time in classes that I didn’t even need for the degree I obtained. Despite everything, there were many leadership skills I developed as a growing adult in college. I recall numerous opportunities to make decisions, solve problems, collaborate, be disciplined, and be creative. With more focus, I eventually pursued and obtained the masters degree in music education from University of Georgia, earning a higher GPA than I did in my undergraduate studies. Both experiences, however, laid the foundation for my present pursuit.
Sociologist and law enforcers believed the gangs were created to protect them from inmates. The gang had their very own rules; they were very strict the
His father Hosea and mother Dois Jackson began to see his talent when he wrote his first rhythm and watched it grow with him as he grew up and became a rapper. Cube changed his mind and wanted more from this world and wanted to become great when he was a teen because of all the violence and all his friends being killed in the hood and that's just what he did. Ice Cube went to fame in 1980s as a member of the controversial rap group N.W.A. when him and some other rappers began writing raps in 1980s. In high school before enjoying success as a solo artist and actor in 1989. Two of his greatest successes were in the beginning of his career the Barbershop (2002) and 21 Jump Street (2012) which was one of my favorites. To Cube he explains this country remains under “a pyramid system of capitalism” and continues to say that it will only change if people fight, fight for what they want and what is theirs, what should be available to all. The story about Cube can't stop now there is too much excitement not
I wish I could say it still surprises me when I mentioned to people that I attended an HBCU (Historically Black College/University), some of them have no idea they exist. Often, it turns into a conversation starter, which usually evolves into a meaningful educational moment about the history of HBCU’s. However, occasionally I find myself becoming frustrated when ask the question “why” in a way that questions the validity and or need for HBCU’s in 2016. As a student at Hampton University I did not fully realize the impact it would have on me, but looking back, it is clear to me that those experiences have shaped who I’ve grown into today, and strongly influence to my desire to pursue a career in environmental science education.
then got him signed to Island Def Jam Recordings. He then released his first album, and went platinum
Carmen Ashurs-Watson, former President of Def Jam records, explains in Hip Hop: Beyond Beats and Rhymes that “gangster music” became popular when?
We may not see this group but the mafia was big back in the day. The mafia was the leading group in criminal activity in the 1960’s(Darity). The mafia was a group that would make tons and tons of money off of drugs, robberies and murders. They would sometimes pay off cops to look the other way and if they didn’t get what they wanted they would use their firearms. With stronger and more enforced laws, many lives could have been saved.
No matter whether or not the gang did commit a crime, they were accused for most things that broke the law all over the country, even if they didn’t do it. The gang was setup to be captured at a drive in movie theater and then later arrested after Dillinger, the leader of the group, was included in a shootout killing a police officer (Ryan, 2017). After they were brought to prison, after about three months Dillinger faked his way out of prison, telling guards that a piece of wood shaped like a gun was real. It was later found out that John Dillinger’s lawyers bribed the guards to let him free using the gun as an excuse (Ryan, 2017). During the Dillinger Gangs run of robberies they stole over one hundred thousand dollars and wounded or killed many people(Ryan, 2017). Once he escaped the government had never wanted any outlaw more than him. Citizens of the United States were sent into a craze looking for Dillinger and his gang, only wanting the reward of fifteen thousand dollars to find him (Stuttman, 1994). Dillinger was hard to find because he got plastic surgery to change his fingerprints and his appearance (Stuttman,
He started in 2006 and then ultimately gained national attention. He was picked out by the likes of Kanye West, Lil Wayne and Jay-Z. He didn’t get a contract until 2009 when Universal Motown signed him on.
The 1960’s or 1970’s is when gangs were originated. Gangs became a formation of protection against racial crimes being committed by whites. There were quite a few popular gangs such as the Slausons,
I recently wrote an essay about the development of the star persona of Ice Cube, the rapper/actor who has made the unusual transition from hardcore gangsta rapper to leading man in such “family-friendly” films as Are We There Yet? The essay, entitled “With an Attitude: The Development of Ice Cube’s Star Persona,” will soon be published in the online film journal 16:9; I’ll link to it as soon as it’s up. The thesis of the essay is that, for all the apparent and unexpected alterations to his “street” persona, Cube’s film characters are nevertheless almost always coded as gangstas – an association that he has not been able (or has not wanted) to shake.
Hip-hop wasn’t a new form of music in 1989, in fact it started in 1982 with Run DMC, but nobody was ready for this form. The police and politicians didn’t like what N.W.A was saying in their lyrics, but all of the things they were rapping about were things that were going on around them on a daily basis. They were seeing people being shot, drug deals going down, and women being called b*tch*s. "I remember when Straight Outta Compton came out, where I lived we could all relate to what they were rapping about because it was our lifestyle."(Wilson. Interview). So basically art was imitating life. But as the decade took a turn into the ‘90’s, so did things for N.W.A. (Tha Biography of Tha E) Ice Cube left to pursue a solo career (Ice Cube- Westside Times) and after him Dr. Dre left to start Death Row Records with Marion "Suge" Knight in 1992.
