Introduction Observing a child will increase the knowledge on how child react in different situations; also, comparing to other cases, there might be some similarities, but there must be differences. In these observations, we are focused on the social relationships, reactions, language, and emotion. Based on what we have learned in the class, I know children a bit more than usual. Some children might be more mature than their ages, but some children might not be on their ages yet. For example, asking children to solve the same problem that some children can finish it very quick, but some of them finish it slower or cannot finish it at all. I have done several observations before using running record, time sampling, and other observation system. Even though case studies provide child development major students a lot of examples, it cannot be sure that every child will act the same way. From the previous experiences, the child I observed was active and had good social relationships with her peers and teachers. She gave me a feeling like she was not only five years old. Based on we could not talk to the child while observing that prevent us to get more information we needed. Collecting data from the target child is only from what we saw and what we heard that made me not able to get the information which was on the assignment sheets. The purpose of this assignment is to closely observe the development of a child through an interview and apply the theories and concept of child development in his particular cultural and educational context. I selected the child who lives in my neighborhood for the interview and began with seeking the permission from his parents. The child’s name is ‘Abdullah’ and he is seven years old. He lives with his family in Terre Haute and his family consists of parents and two sisters. Abdullah goes to Sugar Grove Elementary School in the Terre Haute city along with his two sisters and he is in grade 2. The interview was conducted at his home and I ensured his convenience. He was cooperative and provided insightful responses to the questions and he provided significant detail in the interview. I was able to track his development stages and connect it to different theories of Developmental Psychology including psychoanalytical perspectives and Piaget’s stages of development. In the following paragraphs, I will explain my observations about Abdullah’s development in the light of developmental theories with special focus on cognitive, social, linguistic, and emotional development followed by making connections between his socioeconomic and cultural background and development. Lastly, I will conclude paper by highlighting that the observations during the interview can facilitate my future practice as a teacher.

Observer visited a play place of a restaurant in New Jersey, Hackensack. Why I have chosen the place is easy to observe every part of child development such as cognitive, social emotional, language as well as physical at the same time. Observer performed the observation on April 28 from 1 pm to 3pm. The child was an Asian boy. He has strait short black hair with dark brown eyes and thin black eye brows.
