MODEST PROPOSAL: New Punishments for People Who Committed a Murder and Claim that the Victim Dishonored their Family by Shaming their Name, Sex Before Marriage, Refusing an Arranged Marriage, or Being a Victim of Rape Picture this, a mother crying for her baby and yelling at her husband for killing her little girl, just because she was in love with someone else, other than the man her father chose for her to marry. Sad right? You here about his all over the news from all over the world. Family killing family because they have dishonored the family. It’s so stupid to see family going against each other just because their son likes men or daughters refusing arranged marriages and it always ends up killing their sons or their daughters because they have “dishonored the family name”. This murder is called honor killing, killing those who have dishonored the family. I have come up with a solution for this. We should get the victim’s family and let them choose the murder’s punishment, which will result in death. The family of the victim can choose the punishment but if they choose not, the murder will be executed in front of everyone in the area where the murders live. The punishments can be beating them to death, beheaded, being whipped to death, or caned to death or whatever the family chooses, which can be anything as …show more content…
Secondly, the number of honor killings will decrease, because other people learned of the punishment when committing this crime. Thirdly, Young women and men can choose their spouse without their parent’s or other family trying to kill them. Fourthly, the government of the middle east will be influenced to change the law of honor killings and will be outlawed for good. Fifthly, people would think twice about committing the crime because if they do they will die a horrible death. And finally, the middle east will be at
The implied thesis of Swift’s “A Modest Proposal" is that 18th century Ireland would be in a better situation if the Irish society and monarchy actually treated problems such as overpopulation and poverty, While the overt thesis is that Irish people should consider eating their children and selling them to rich Englishmen to solve the issue of poverty and overpopulation in the country. They differ form one another as one focuses on eating children, while the other focuses on giving commentary through the essay itself.
When Swift is describing the use of children as commodities, it is ironic because his intentions are to actually explain that the English view the whole Irish population as commodities. The English landlords are the ones responsible for Ireland’s poverty. The essay shows, through sarcasm, that the English have purposely took everything from the Irish because they view them as commodities. One example of sarcasm used to portray that idea is that the utilization of infants will be “proper for landlords, who, as they have already devoured most of the parents, seem to have the best title to the children” (804). It is very apparent that Swift blames the English for Ireland’s problems. He also blames the Irish Catholics that allowed English policy to break down Ireland.
Since the beginning of the 19th century, America has had to deal with the on going
You are still not convinced?! Think of all the worthy causes we could put that money on everything we could cure/fix and everyone. But don’t stop at health and medicine. Imagine how much better our schools could be. We could very well, possibly end world hunger not just in third world countries; but here in our own United States as well. I realize that no matter what people will ultimately do what they want to do, no matter how much you try to deter their behavior. That is where my proposal kicks in to stop these criminals in their tracks before they could possibly do more harm or recruit other people to do their dirty work for them if you will for them. Sure, they are locked up behind bars being a parasite on our system while they have followers
Pharmaceuticals may be used by the normal person on the daily. They can help an individual from treating a disease to preventing a disease from spreading. These same medicines can be taken advantage of and abused. The Romantic poets seemed to have ideas that wouldn’t come to the normal mind during their time and had ideas that seemed to be outlandish. There are a theory that poets used drugs to spark ideas from within themselves, they were thought to start abusing everyday medicine.
College is a personal goal, which involves a lot of hard work, money, and personal commitment. However, this choice only benefits a single person, unlike a road or sidewalk. These are integral to many peoples daily life and should be maintained. The editorial article composed for the Denver post on August 21, 2015 “Denver sales tax increase for scholarship should be rejected” brings to light how Denver plans to use the increase. The author brings into account issues that are easily relatable such as roads and sidewalks. These are things that everyone must use to get to work or school. Our reader now has to ponder this request and if it will benefit them. The author refreshes the memory of the reader about the other three tax increases, all
It brings great obstacles to those who walk down the halls of Silverado High School day in and day out to be by bombarded by thirty-six hundred plus students. This prompts trying to go to the bathroom between classes beyond implausible, for it’s intense enough to just make it to class on time as it is without trying to make a pit stop at the bathroom. Students have been reduced to plowing and shoving their way through people in order to possibly make it to class and be in their seat before the tardy bell rings. I think all parents and more important, students involved will agree that this gargantuan number of students trying to push through one another to make it to the restroom or simply to
In Jonathan Swift’s satire, “A Modest Proposal”, Swift writes about the starving people of Ireland in the early 1700’s. He makes a wild and absurd proposal to help remedy the problems of overpopulation and poverty. Swift wants to make a political statement by using the “children” as satire to grasp the attention of the audience - the English people, the Irish politicians and the rich – and make them aware of the political, moral, and social problems. In “A Modest Proposal”, Swift’s arguments are presented effectively by using pathos (emotional appeal), ethos (ethics and values), and logos (logic reasoning and facts).
In Ireland in 1729 things were not going so well. The Catholics are not able to vote, marry a Protestant, join the forced army, or bare arms. The proposal was published in 1729. The Modest Proposal is an Juvenalian essay written by, Jonathan Swift. The Modest Proposal is summed up to be about preventing the poor people from being a Burthen to their parents or country. The tone of the story is very ironic. Times were very different back then and how they are now. Back in the 1700s people were very depressed, and didn’t care for their children. Loving your children wasn’t a decision for anyone. Jonathan was very sarcastic, but people in his decade were not that way. They believed everyone should be treated the same, and everyone should be serious and shouldn’t play around. Catholics are forced to divide properties among all male heirs and over time their land shrink into tiny plots. Jonathan Swift was a sharp satire of the Irish predicament, suggesting the rich should eat the children of the poor, to the benefit of both parties. Jonathan also led economic criticism from 1713-1745. (Historical Summary.) In the essay “A Modest Proposal” Jonathan Swift challenges the status quo of the time and place which is written by suggesting selling babies, eating babies, and real solutions.
“A Modest Proposal” by Jonathan Smith: An Argument Analysis In “A Modest Proposal,” Jonathan Smith employs rhetorical reasoning and tropes to make his argument that the people of Ireland need to accept a reasonable solution to the oppression imposed by England. This argument is masked by satire as he proposes that eating children is a far more practical solution to Ireland’s problems than any other solution he had offered in his previous works. His clever rhetoric builds a strong intrinsic ethos throughout the piece and significantly strengthens his argument. Smith’s argument is the most clear in his confirmation as he dismisses all of the other solutions that he had given in his earlier pamphlets, declaring that those solutions are not
The name of honor may be concealed through the combined power of family and community working in concert, providing alibis for one another and representing a murder as an accidental death or suicide (4). This shows the many lives of the girls who are being murdered by their own family members are not valued. In certain countries, women and girls may not be registered at birth or attend school, so their lives, and their deaths occur outside official figures (4). It is like women would not be missed and so officially women do not even have to be registered. If a woman decides to press charges it would be difficult for her to do so. Also her death would not be recorded just because it was like she never existed. It would almost be like the perfect
There are many ways that honour killings are a breach of human rights, including the right to life, liberty, and to pursue happiness, the right to recognition as a person before the law, and freedom from torture, and degrading treatment. Honour killings are the murder of women because they have been perceived to dishonour a family in some way, and by killing them, their family honour is restored. It is prevalent in countries like Pakistan, India, and Afghanistan. Mostly occurs in countries where the majority religion is Muslim, and they believe that it is okay to kill family members. Can also occur in South and Eastern Asian countries.
Capital punishment is beneficial to the community. It provides the society with a sense of security. The death penalty contains a positive influence on the future. A heavily debated topic is, “Does capital punishment deter people more than a life sentence to prison?” An explanation on why will be covered later. An issues many people have with capital punishment, is when it is just or not just. This is a topic many stray away from, because it is difficult to decide. Finding the right consequence for an action is difficult. While this paper is for the use of capital punishment, it is clearly not needed for every crime, or even every murder. Overusing capital punishment, such as using it for every murder, will negatively impact the country, and not using it has the same effect.
An issue that has continually created tension in today's society is whether the death penalty serves as a justified and valid form of punishment. Whenever the word "death penalty" comes up, extremists from both sides start yelling out their arguments. One side says deterrence, the other side says there's a potential of executing an innocent man; one says justice, retribution, and punishment; the other side says execution is murder. Crime is an evident part of society, and everyone is aware that something must be done about it. Most people know the threat of crime to their lives, but the question lies in the methods and action in which it should be dealt with. In several parts of
Being part of this ever evolving world, social media have become a crucial tool of global communication. Whether following the trendiest mediums such as Facebook and Twitter or relying on the pre-existing ones such as Televisions, newspapers and radios; learning about tragic murders, homicides and massacres on top of other dreadful news is unavoidable. It is unfortunate to hear about all of the aforementioned heartbreaking news and stand still with no opinion to be taken into consideration. Nowadays, one of the major controversial debates in our juridical system is whether death penalty should be abolished or not. The belief of executing someone’s life is hard to completely grasp. The physical mechanics involved in the act of decapitation are simple to grip, but emotionally, the idea of carrying out such a capital punishment is beyond every human being’s understanding. Should we as Human Beings have the privilege to take someone’s life when another life has been taken? Is it against Human rights? Is it ethically acceptable? Taking a glimpse on worldwide cases, and since 1990, death penalty has been prohibited in several nations, considered as an inhumane, unethical, uncivilized and cruel punishment. However, two pints of view have emerged: those who defend the death penalty sentence as a social and ethical solution and the ones who support the idea of abolishing capital punishment. First, each crime has a socio-economic background. On another hand, such acts violate
