The article “A Tale of Two Summers for Parents” written by Belinda Luscombe explains her and other people's situation with taking care of their children during the summer. From the text you can see how she agrees with some of the other people if she was put into that situation You can also observe from the text that it is difficult for single mothers or anyone to supervise children with a busy schedule especially when you can't pay for daycare.The controversy of whether children should be supervised is present in this article when the author talks about other people and how they supervise children and how she supervises her child. In my opinion I think that children in elementary and under should be supervised by an adult. Overall I think it's better that way for the safety of the child. A child wouldn't know what to do if a problem were to arise while since they children are afraid of many things,they would just be scared and wouldn't do anything. If the child is supervised the adult will know what to do, of course the adult will be afraid also but since they are older and have more knowledge they will know what to do no matter the situation.Belinda talks about other situations like, “leaving her 9year old daughter in the park in North Augusta”, I think that was a bad idea because anything could to the child. The child could be …show more content…
Parents think that their child is still too young to be left home alone or in general to be unsupervised.They think that it isn’t safe and the parents know that they can get in trouble with the law if they do that. When I was in elementary school my mother wouldn't let me stay unsupervised I went, I either had to be with be my sister or someone that my parents knew and trust to supervise me. I think that it is good that they did this because I couldn't imagine what what have done in some
Naturally parents will want to see their children do well. Sometimes though in an effort to keep their children safe parents inadvertently hold their children back from exploring the world around them, lessening their chances to learn and progress. While it is understandable to want to shelter
It is very important to let children asses’ danger for themselves in a secure environment. It is not good for them to be cooped up and have somebody tell them that one thing is bad and will hurt them and another will keep them safe they need to identify these things for themselves to enable them to live a positive life as an adult and to gain confidence in themselves and their own abilities. At the same time the children need to be given this chance in a safe and secure place whereby I as the carer know they will not come into any danger.
As a home based child-minder the safe supervision of children both in and out of the home is ultimately my complete and main responsibility. When considering the level of supervision required it is important to remember that ’supervision’ can be interpreted into 3 different level types- I.e. the depth of supervision that you adapt, and that safety requirements outlined by Ofsted determines supervision to be adapted at all times of children in my care primarily in the following activity areas;
In the essay, "What to Do with the Kids This Summer? " Put 'Em to Work", Ben Sasse argues that teenagers should work/do something that relates to the real world in order to survive as adults. He makes this assertion by claiming that kids nowadays are too involved with things that aren't substantial and that the teenage experience should primarily be the time where children learn how to become adults. To persuade his audience, Sasse credits his career as president of a university (ethos) as a way to accurately describe the behaviors of teenagers and young adults and appeals to the emotion of fear (pathos). So readers have a motivation to prepare teenagers for the transition into adulthood.
In “A Summer Life” Soto is the name of a six-year-old boy who faces a decision between sinning and not fulfilling his sweet tooth desires. This all started when Soto became bored and thought the only way to cure his boredom was through sin. Though Soto knows that sinning is iniquitous he ends up going against all of his religious beliefs and greedily taking the pie for his own longing to eat something sweet. Shortly after, Soto knows stealing the pie was wrong and regrets his decision. In “A Summer Life” Soto shifts from greedy to guilty by using striking imagery, potent ethos, and biblical illusions to recreate his story.
Life is full of various memories that shape who we are as a person, like making your very first friend, or learning how to ride a bike. Literature retells these stories using rhetorical and literary devices to help the reader visualize the story and apply it to their own lives. In the autobiographical narrative by Gary Soto “A Summer Life” the author recreates his childhood experience of stealing a pie by using imagery, diction, repetition and Biblical allusions in his writing.
Deborah Harrells’ case was something that didn’t have me worry because as an older sister I’ve let my 9 year old brother go to the outside of our apartments to play with other kids. All I am saying is that Yes I am aware that there might be strangers but also I know what is right and wrong. We should often review some emergency procedures in case anything might happen. I don’t think it’s that big of a deal to leave a 9 year old unattended especially if they have a phone with them. I don’t think anyone should be pointing fingers and think that Harell isn’t being a good parent. Everyone is different and they raise the children how they prefer as long as it’s not any type of abuse. We have to understand that these parents might be trying their best to be able to help their children succeed in
We have observed two different short stories, one called “Examination Day” by Henry Slesar, and another called “All Summer in a Day” by Ray Bradbury. “Examination Day” is about how when a person becomes 12 years old they have to take an examination determining their intelligence. Anyone with an intelligence above the norm is considered unacceptable. Anyone smarter than the norm is eliminated. The story focuses on a very intelligent boy taking his Examination, and getting killed for being too smart. The story “All Summer in a Day” is about a colony on Venus that faces constant rain and the sun shining once every 7 years. The story focuses on a girl Margot, from earth who is harassed by the others on Venus since she remembers the sun being
Have you ever been betrayed by someone that you trusted? “The Summer People”, a fairy tale short story written by the author Kelly Link, portrayed the characters in a way that be can be greatly related. Throughout the story, she used several literary elements, such as symbols, allusions, and dictions to help the readers to understand the moral of the story. The main character, Fran, was bonded with the faith to be the caretaker of the summer people, and there is no possible way that she can escape from them. Despite the kindness of her friend, Ophelia, Fran decided to use her to gain freedom from the summer people. Ophelia has always been truthful to Fran, even though Fran bullies her during the beginning of the story. At the end, Ophelia was betrayed by Fran and forced to take over her responsibilities of the summer people. In an e-mail interview conducted by Journal of the Fantastic in the Arts with Kelly Link by the editor, Brian Attebery, explained the style of her writing. Link stated, “The primary goals of fiction — whether it’s fantasy or realism or whatever — are to entertain, to raise or answer question, to unsettle or to comfort, to communicate. The tool set changes. The goal varies too, and that’s independent of genre” (qtd. In Attebery 414). The statement from Link gives the readers that why she decided to write stories like The Summer People, which can be greatly related to realism, because it’s important to understand thing aren’t always going to turn
Children do not yet have the knowledge of how to protect themselves from abuse or harm, therefore adults have a duty to look after them. Parents leave their children in the care of the school and trust staff to ensure that their child is well cared for whilst in the setting. Failing to do so shows unprofessionalism of the school and staff. Theoretically, everyone in a school setting has the opportunity to harm children.
A Tale of Two Summers For Parents In the article A Tale of Two Summers For Parents by Belinda Luscombe, some may say that elementary students could be left alone without any supervision looking after them but others might disagree, they think that they are still incapable of looking after themselves because they don’t know right from wrong yet. I think that some elementary students are capable to take care of themselves but I believe that the ages should matter as well. I think 4th and 5th graders do know right from wrong therefore could be left alone without any supervision. Not only is is hard for the parent to leave their kids at home in the summer but it is harder for them to pay someone to take care of them when they work in low
500 days of summer is a story where a boy meets a girl, he falls in love with her yet she does not truly love him. The movie shows the progression of the relationship of Tom and Summer. It begins when they first meet when Summer begins working as a secretary where Tom works and progresses to them casually dating. Summer is obviously hesitant and against relationships yet Tom is overly eager to find the perfect girl. The story ultimately shows the demise and after effects of their relationship. At first thought anyone could think this is the typical love story where the movie casually progresses to them living happily ever after. This is not that kind of fairy tale love story.
Why children and young people may need to be looked after away from their families.
Safeness is one of the advantages of parenting style where parents create rules like a method of protecting their children, it’s similar to providing guidance as to which is the correct path to take. Better parenting allows the parent and the child to have better relationships with their children. Parents effectively deal with difficult kids, and another one is clear goals which child is aware of what was his/her goal in the future. It also creates responsible citizens that are highly responsible citizens when they grow up. One of the disadvantages of parenting style is rebellion where children don’t get the opportunity to learn right from their mistakes. It can also create communication problems where child is afraid that his feelings, thoughts or actions might be punished, he is not as likely to share these problems with his parents. This is a can cause problem because children need to talk with their parents when they encounter problems, they can solve it within their selves. Bullying is also one of the disadvantages when strict parent typically establishes limits without empathy, children raised in a strict home often become angry and
A few minutes before we landed at the airport, I looked at the screen in front of me and it showed ‘33°C’. It had been a year since I last experienced that kind of heat and I couldn’t bear it last time, so I wondered how I would cope with the heat this time. As the plane began to slow and turn into terminal, I could hear people around me start to get there belongings together so that they could get off the plane first. People returned the magazines to the rack on the back of the chair in front of them and I turned off my iPod and put it back in my bag. When I took my headphones out, I felt like I was back in the real world now as I had been concentrating on listening to music for hours. It seemed like time was going slower and slower
