A group by the name of the Black Eyed Peas wrote a song called ”Where is the Love." This song is released on their 2003 Elephunk album and the music video is directed by Will.I.Am, one of the group members. The song is talking about all of the social, racial, and other issues that is going on in the world. We as a country is trying to help other countries with their problems and issues, but we have issues of our own that we cannot even solve. Some Americans thinks this country is perfect and we do not have flaws, but they are sadly mistaken because of all of the hatred and violence we have toward one another, just because their skin tone may not be the same. The video is a mixture between a narrative and conceptual video. It tells the story of how much racism and other societal problems this county have, and that we need …show more content…
This question mark represents the question where is the love? Where is the Love is representing love towards not only your race and people who look and act like you, but other people who do not look like you or act like you. They show different races of people to symbolize people that is being discriminated on a daily basis because of the color of their skin or because of the country their parents are from. For an example when we see a Muslim, we automatically think of terrorism. Just because of one incident, (I am not making 9/11 a light situation, it is a devastating situation that still affects many Americans today), we have labeled all Muslim as terrorist, which is not true. Every country has their issues, but they deal with them differently, while the United States push their’s aside and deal with it when the problem has gotten out of control. All of this resonates with me because we are quick to pass judgement among other cultures and countries, but have we taken a look at what they might think of us, how sometimes as a country we can be a
Although there has been a lot of progress made over the past years, there are currently many various problematic issues in this world that are contributed to by discriminatory behaviour and belief systems. Back in 2015, MTV’s White People had the goal of bringing notice to that. The writer of the film, Jose Antonio Vargas, wanted to show caucasians that race was not just an issue for those of color; it affects everyone. The idea for the documentary was excellent, but feel short when delivered. Part of that could come from poor editing, MTV’s documentary history, or even just the lack of variation in those interviewed. This film could’ve been a really good conversation starter, but the entire thing just felt rushed and left me feeling disappointed.
Everyone sees our world in different shades of different colors. The United States is the worlds most powerful nation, and we have our hand in virtually all projects around the world, we do this to try to better it for the people inhabiting it. Is The United States actually creating a better planet? Is the United States the one causing all the problems? I will be comparing and contrasting two stories, one is about Columbians who are forced to work in the drug trade business, or take a bullet and die, while the other story is about how the United states wanting to pass a bill in the United States that would put a halt to all trade tied with countries that endorse child labor. These two issues are very similar while at the same time they
The song “Where’s the Love?” by Black Eyed Peas displays many sociological concept in the context of its lyrics. In this song the band is expressing their concerns with the world’s views and actions of the present day. They question the mentality and reflect upon the realism of the world. The main idea surrounding this song is concentrated around the social construction of reality and how the world is changing. The song expresses the way people are not living up to society’s norms and values. It suggests that various agents of socialization are at fault and that they contribute to the development of self.
Initially while watching this video and analyzing the photographs included, I felt disgusted by the history of America. However, during my time watching this video I felt very overwhelmed as saturated feelings of unintentional angry thoughts of white people crowded my head. In each picture, I felt a connection as if I were standing in front of each lynching. With the narrator in the background speaking in such a nonchalant tone I could not completely focus and take in the reality of what my ancestors were suspected to.
I noticed that the majority of the plethora of pictures shown in this video were that Blacks, women, men, and even the children, were very dark, had eyes and lips bulging out, jovial and content with slavery, and were usually portrayed eating watermelon. Americans seeing these pictures for 150+ years would eventually emit off the fact that most, if not all, Blacks looked like this and were content of slavery. The pictures evoking off the savage-like pictures would give off the fact that Blacks freed from slavery would end up like this to humanity, acting all savagely to Whites. All of these caricatures were far from the truth of the reality of how Blacks were; rather, they were drawn up by Whites who manipulated the White society to believe that these caricatures were facts, which in reality, they were not.
The emotional reaction that the filmmakers intended for anyone who watch this film is that no matter what skin, hair and eye color is no one deserves to be labeled. No race should be discriminated and criticize. We should all get along and just be proud of where our roots come from. This film also intended for everyone who watch this film, is that there should not have to be obstacles to be proud of your own race.
Ludacris does a remarkable job of portraying his message about the struggles that some adolescents are faced with. “Runaway Love”, by Ludacris, featuring Mary J. Blige (2007), represents the theme of struggle through hip-hop and rap music. It is about little girls who are “stuck up in the world on their own.” They have to take care of themselves because the people they are around do not care about them. They range from nine to eleven years in age, and their goal in life, at such a young age, is to run away from home. Ludacris is trying to get the listener to realize the struggles that even children have to face because adults are not the only ones who have problems, like most people believe. He is very successful in
“We Found Love” is a popular song produced by Calvin Harris and features singer Rihanna. “We Found Love” reached the number one spot in the top charts in multiple countries in 2012 and the music video became popular very quickly after being filmed in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The music video features a young couple living in an impoverished council estate in West Belfast. Both characters portrayed in the music video are in their twenties and of mixed race, one parent being black and the other being Caucasian. Their relationship is distinguished by domestic violence as the couple is seen yelling, pushing and hurting one another, along with stealing from convenience stores, gambling and abusing drugs and alcohol together.
The song “Where is the Love?” has many sociological concepts put into the lyrics. It is the first song that popped up in my head when seeing this assessment and if you have ever heard the song then you would know why I chose this specific song. The band in this song expresses the the world's issues and they express their view on the world and the actions others make. The main idea of the song is concentrated on the reality and how the world is changing.
Answer: Overall this video discuss the problems when illegal peoples come in to the USA. What kind of the problem they have to face as an illegal. This video shows us as an illegal immigrant we have no right to live in USA. It discuss how hard it is to find a job as an illegal immigrant and working on minimum wages. This film is great if someone want to follow the law and every rule and regulation in united stat. No one is allowed to come in
I was very shocked to see how the video showed how the movie Birth of Nation and how race opporates in the U.S are still prevelant today. We are still living a place where people of color are still thrown under the bus for things either they did'nt commit or just because it can be done to them because they are considered a minority and are known as second class citizens. An yes Jim Crows Laws still exsist today in a more discrete form, however, alot of people see it as well. Only difference is now people can join together as a movement to seek some sort of justice. That will probably never happen, since issues such as them ones shown in the video have been going on for years and may still go on for years to come. I believe out of all the information
“America was conducting business as usual, but others were joining the game.” (Zakaria, 221). All this time we thought we were on top, we were actually slowly becoming less and less of leader and more a bystander as the rest of the world is slowly rising around us. Zakaria shows in that quote that as America has been continuing business like always, and because of this we have failed to realize our standing with the world around us. In the book The Post-American World, Zakaria shows us the challenges that America faces today. I believe the United States is most affected by our ignorance, competition, and worldly participation.
The song “Where Is The Love” by the Black Eyed Peas is a very heartfelt prayer for the healing and suffering in the world and society that we live in. I feel like the song is about exactly what the title is asking. Where is the love? Sometimes we have to stop, look around us and think about the relationships we have with other people. Are our relationships built on foundations of true love, compassion and kindness? Although the songs was originally released in 2003, most of the issues the song focuses on are still relevant today, in 2017. Which really makes me wonder, where IS the love? Surely after 14 years, things would have changed. Hate and war have existed since the beginning of humanity. Crime is an enormous part of our society, in the past and in the present. Imagine a world that is crime free, the perfect utopia. A world where everyone accepts their neighbour for the person they truly are, without racism, without judgement, without oppression. “Where is the love?” recognizes chaos in a broken world, intoxicated with violence and hate.
This video relates to several chapters in our sociology book, the main chapter being chapter ten, race and ethnicity. This movie focused on the struggle in our country with discrimination of those
In 1984, an iconic song was created by two sensational artists Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie. A song they created inspired millions, originally created for people of Africa during the time of a horrific famine, was later recreated for the earthquake of Haiti. And for many years our world has been through so much trauma, trauma such as diseases, shootings, and devastating natural disasters. That song we know as “We Are The World” created such an inspiring notion that sparks to change our perspective of the world, how it is ours the children like Jackson said’ “ We are the world, we are the children” meaning we are all connected and the lyrics of this song represents that.
