A Trip to the Dentist's Office

The phone rings, and I answer, “Thank you for calling Enterprise, how may I help you?” The voice on the other end asks for Andrea, and I reply, “This is she.” The voice says she is calling to remind me of my 11:00 AM dental appointment. I sigh and tell her I will be there on time.
I enter the brick building and walk over to the elevator; I push the up button and patiently wait. The elevator door promptly opens, and I get in. I push the button with a number two on it, and the doors close… up I go. Once on the second floor, I exit the elevator. Even before I go into Dr.Taylor’s office, I can immediately smell the mixture of wintergreen-flavored toothpaste and bleach out in the hall. As soon as I open the

I notice there is a little girl playing with the many colorful toys scattered all over the floor. I secretly wish to myself that I could be that little girl waiting for my parent to come out from the dentist. The little girl sees me watching her and asks, “Do you want to play with me?” I think to myself, “Why not?” and say, “Sure.” After what seems like an eternity of playing with blocks, the nurse calls my name. . I enter the inner office and sit in the black leather chair while looking at all the shiny stainless steel equipment. As I sit down, the bright overhead light momentarily blinds me. I feel like a deer about to meet his death. Dr. Taylor enters the room just as I am about to get up and run out the door. He is a middle-aged man that probably used to have black hair, but it is now frosted with gray. He is one of those people that just looks naturally friendly and is always smiling. I began to get some of my courage back. He asks, “Are you having a good day?” In which I reply, “I was until I had to come here.” He laughs and says, “Now Andrea, you’re just getting a cleaning.” I let out a huge sigh of relief; for some reason, I thought he was going to drill on my teeth. He puts a blue bib around my neck and says, “If you’re good, I’ll give you a sticker when we’re through.” I laugh and say, “What about a sugar free sucker instead?” I’m completely relaxed now, and before I know it, it’s over. .
