Ms. Priziola your post was very informative about pharmacy practice. Not to mention, it brought back memory when I use to sit in the store for hours because my father had to do inventory every night before leaving the store. I do remember reading that the pharmacy industry were considering to assemble a software for managing pharmacy inventory. With this automation software it was able to tack and report financial saving, solve pharmacy problems, and provide pharmacies the freedom, flexibility to help manage inventory, reorder and generate purchase orders, and share inventory across multiple pharmacies, just to name a few . This software system will be able compatible to the smart phones, tablets and other electronic
The Web Portal could also be expanded to provide outside vendor services such as, Just in Time pharmaceutical replenishment and inventory updates. Just in Time pharmaceutical replenishment will allow the hospital to automatically replenish stock and optimize inventory. The hospital will have to grant access to its database to companies similar to Just in Time, but the rewards for the hospital will be phenomenal. The hospital can cross references the prescription company’s database to ensure that no other medication the patient is taking will have complications for the patients or adverse effects. The system could also recommend alternatives to the prescribe medications to even further
Encourage the use of computer-generated or electronic medication administration records. Plan for the implementation of computerized prescriber order entry systems. Consider the use of machine-readable code (i.e., bar coding) in the medication administration process. Use computerized drug profiling in the pharmacy. Be a demanding customer of pharmacy system software; encourage vendors to incorporate and assist in implementing an adequate standardized set of checks into computerized hospital pharmacy systems (e.g., screening for duplicate drug therapies, patient allergies, potential drug interactions, drug/lab interactions, dose ranges, etc.)”. I completed my second Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experience at Walgreens Pharmacy in Tallahassee, FL. Over the course of three weeks, I worked under the supervision of Aisha Wilder, PharmD, R.Ph. I also worked alongside two pharmacy technicians and one pharmacy intern.
My second introductory pharmacy practice site experience was with Walmart Pharmacy located in Crestview, Florida. The pharmacy was initially added to the Walmart Supercenters so that patients may shop while waiting for their refills. This organization is 4th leading pharmacy in the United Sates by prescription revenue. Walmart Pharmacies generate about 17.9 billion in prescription revenue annually.
I am motivated to volunteer in the HPC volunteer program because sports have been such a large part of my life. I played competitive soccer from the age of 12 and I still continue to play. In addition, the anatomy of the human body fascinates me and I wish to learn more about it through a hands-on experience. This past winter break, I took the opportunity to volunteer at PT Health at Guelph Medical Place. The physiotherapist I worked with was Phillip Genesis.
In a changing healthcare environment, the role of the pharmacist has evolved from primarily dispensing to monitoring and managing drug therapy in collaboration with physicians and other providers. As a result, pharmacy technicians are beginning to take on some of the technical aspects of pharmacy practice. This means that better educated, more qualified technicians will be needed in the future.
When I began my journey through college, I was unsure about where my love and respect for science and healthcare would take me, but I knew that I wanted to take those two interests and apply them with the personal fulfillment I felt when it came to helping others. It was not until I began to have health issues, that I became sound in my decision to pursue the path of pharmacy. Being on the receiving end of treatments, made me have a drastic change in the mindset of how I thought about the healthcare of a patient and how I would apply my science knowledge to my future pursuits. When learning about diseases, illnesses, and deficiencies I would always find myself drifting towards trying to develop a plan of action on what could be given to a person suffering and how a person’s treatment could be optimized.
My Butler University academic training and intern experience has positioned me to recognize and appreciate the essential role performed by the clinical pharmacist. Although sometimes transparent, it is the clinical pharmacist that is central to a patient’s ultimate successful recovery. This was evident during my clinical rotations, where I directly participated in the optimization of medication therapy to achieve patient-specific outcomes; it is for this reason I am impassioned and compelled to pursue a residency. As a PGY-1 resident, I plan to apply my clinical knowledge in the acute and ambulatory care settings to identify medication-related problems and make therapeutic recommendations in collaboration with other practitioners. Upon completion
Thank you for your request for information regarding Pradaxa (dabigatran etexilate). As you stated, you have a patient named PF, who is planned to have hip arthroplasty in 2-4 weeks due to degenerative joint disease that is unresponsive to either physical therapy or simple pain relievers. Mr. PF is a 79 year-old male with hypertension and hyperlipidemia. His current medications include naproxen 220 mg po bid, tramadol 50 mg po tid, and enalapril 10 mg po qd. In addition, Mr. PF has the codeine allergy. Because of Mr. PF’s severe fear of giving himself shots, your concern is whether or not Mr. PF can have Pradaxa orally instead of enoxaparin 40mg subcutaneously for DVT prophylaxis and still receives the similar efficacy and safety.
I am writing to you during the week 6 of the quarter and I am doing well. This quarter im taking it easy because I need to start completing some classes to fulfill requirements for graduation. I am taking some general education classes like art history, dance appreciation, and economics while also taking genetics. I have my schedule all figured out and right now I am studying for upcoming midterms.
The practice of pharmacy has many usual aspects, for example, compounding and providing the patients with their medications. Moreover, it has newer aspects that are due to the current practice that involve monitoring patients with their medications to make sure that the medications are safe and working. It also involves informing the patients about their medications. As a result, pharmacists are the chief source of drug information and the main healthcare providers who improve the results of medication
Today in the 21st century the roles of pharmacist have expanded tremendously. Before pharmacist had the role of solely dispensing drugs. Pharmacists were limited to only being regulatory or clinical pharmacist. Back then they were called medical purveyors who were much like today’s regulatory pharmacist and hospital pharmacist who are similar to hospital pharmacist. Now pharmacists carry many roles in healthcare. Pharmacist can play roles in public health, community, health systems, state, and federal government.
The flow of the medical community is dependent on every person employed there. The harmony it creates does not only come from the doctors or nurses, but the janitors, surgeons, receptionists, and even the pharmacists. Each job is necessary in order for the hospitals to function properly; for instance, the doctors diagnose the patient with their illness, prescribe them medication to cure it, and send them to the pharmacist, who then gives them their medication and sends them home. However, some jobs are overlooked more than others and do not receive the proper credit, like the pharmacist. Pharmacists are recognized for dispensing and sorting drugs, but their jobs help educate patients over their prescription and uphold the
For my second Introductory to Pharmacy Practice Experience (IPPE II), I was assigned to shadow as an intern at Economy Drug Store on Macomb Street in Tallahassee, FL for three days. This was my second experience in the pharmacy setting, but my first time in the independent pharmacy. I was able to work with Mrs. Alexis McMillan, the pharmacist. I learned many new things while working on this site and I knew the experience would help me further my knowledge in my future career.
“I promise to devote myself to a lifetime of service to others through the profession of pharmacy” was an oath I took two years ago when I graduated as a pharmacist from Jordan University of Science and Technology, but the preparation to fulfill it started since my first day in undergrad school, as my ultimate goal in life is to provide people with best health within my possibilities. In order to be able to stand still behind my promise, I have been working hardly since then on my education, personal traits and professional development.
