In a world without pain or suffering everyone would think that their world is perfect. But is it really? In the book The Giver 12-year-old Jonas lives in a world without pain, suffering, war or memories. Everyone in his community thinks that their world is perfect and are always happy. But in reality a world without pain or suffering may not be the ideal environment for humans. Even without emotions or pain will human nature and emotions shine through?

One can make a lot of predictions about the novel The Giver because of the confusing plot and structure of the dystopian and science fiction novel. The story focuses on the main character Jonas who gets the job of the receiver of memories. Jonas finds out how heinous, jealous, and selfish, or how devoted, affectionate and tender humans can really be.

One prediction that can be made for the book The Giver is that Lois Lowry is trying to tell the readers ,that in a world without pain or memories humans can lose their connections with the past, not only their memories of love and compassion, but also memories of their mistakes and wars that really make them human. People’s memories help humans learn from their mistakes and become better people.
