However, resolving the orders manually was a cumbersome task. “It was a challenge for us to work with the standard reports to resolve these issues with the work force we have available to us in the direct side of the business,” said Trilling. “We were able to create a workflow application using the data contained within CWData, and this allowed us to respond to these issues in an efficient and cost-effective manner.” Leveraging CWData’s unique functionality to extract only new and changed data to the CWData database, Trilling created a Lotus Notes application that accesses the CWData database to find all the orders that have gone on hold. Once the orders are accessed, the application sends an e-mail to the customer and, using the workflow capability within Notes, adds it to a CSR’s work queue. The application then accesses the CWData database to see if the order has gone off hold, “CommercialWare’s CWData solution allows us to maximize our offerings and provides us with a more accurate understanding of overall sales activity across the direct side of the business,” —Todd Trilling, Director of Catalog Systems and then resolves the issue. In this way, the majority of held orders can be resolved without any manual effort. Abercrombie went live with CWData one month after their August 2001 CWDirect launch. Abercrombie kids was launched first with adults following six months later.
