3.1 Classification scheme
ABC analysis begins by determining the content of the classification scheme. The most commonly used factors for classification are annual dollar usage, transaction usage, unit cost, lead time, and quality. Although annual dollar and annual transaction usage are commonly used, other criteria can be used.

3.2 Two-digit coding system
One technique is to use a two-digit coding system that differentiates between dollar velocity and actual usage. The first digit determines the class based on descending dollar value. Once counting has been completed, the count sheets need to be reviewed and counts either verified or variances calculated. 4.4 Advantages of Cycle Counting
An effective cycle count program provides a number of significant advantages.
i) Cycle Counting assists in the maintenance of a high level of inventory accuracy. When the firm depends on a yearly physical inventory to adjust inventory, variances can go unadjusted for long periods of time. The cycle count program focuses on those items with the most transactions, repeated review will ensure a high level of accuracy. ii) Cycle Counting program permits the firm to abolish the expense and operations disruption of the annual physical inventory. iii) Cycle Counting offers the firm is the information provided to inventory controllers to investigate and eliminate the root cause of why inventory variances occur at all in the transaction flow.
