Both the Clemson University Tigers and the University of Michigan Wolverines can feel the anxious and excited roar of the crowd as they run onto the field at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, for the Fiesta Bowl on New Year's Eve. This is a College Football Playoff Semifinal game, so the winner goes to the National Championship. Both teams enter the game with a season record of 13-0. Four hours earlier, the fourth seed Washington Huskies shocked the world by beating the number one ranked Alabama Crimson Tide, possibly the biggest upset in college football postseason history. Clemson enters this game with solid wins against top teams Louisville and Florida State, and they beat North Carolina in the ACC Championship Game.…show more content…
The Wolverines started with a handoff to their running back, De'Veon Smith, who gained six yards. They would run the ball for the next two plays, but they didn't find any luck, and they only gained three more yards. They ended the drive with a field goal, therefore making it 3-0. Clemson wasn't able to answer back with a score, and that began a long stretch of three-and-outs for both teams. This surprised the fans, as neither team could find an answer for their offensive struggles. But then out of nowhere, Michigan’s Wilton Speight was able to connect with his favorite receiver Amara Darboh, for a 45 yard gain. Deshaun Watson then hit Hunter Renfrow on a deep ball, which scored a 27 yard touchdown, and that made the score 13-17, and the Tigers now had all of the momentum. Michigan responded with a quick drive themself, only to shoot themself in the foot by fumbling the ball away. This game quickly returned to a defensive battle, with both offenses not able to produce any yardage. This continued for the rest of the quarter, until Deshaun Watson threw yet another interception, which set Michigan up at Clemson’s 20 yard line.
