In 1984, by George Orwell violence contributed to the plot by having three stages of reintegration. The stages are learning, understand, and to accept, Winston was forced to learn that 2+2=5 under torture, understanding that the party is good, and seeks power for its own. Winston accepts and understands the Party as he wishes the burden of torture on someone else who he loves, this allowed Winston to accept that the Party’s leader Big Brother is eternal and that 2+2=5, he comes committed and loyal to the Party and its purpose, he then awaits his execution to prove his devotion to the party.
The remainder of the poem's setting takes place in the United States, where the speaker and her family now reside. Living in the United States, the speaker's miserable tone results from the fact that she feels alienated from her children, but now they, "go to American high schools/ They speak English" (Line 8-9). English, a language she does not understand and is, "embarrassed at mispronouncing words" (Line 16). This barrier of language has broken off a major form of communication between her children and her. There once was a time when she would laugh along with her children as they told jokes, but now all she can do is, "stand by the stove and feel dumb, alone" (Line 11). The speaker's setting has distorted her self image. The fact that she now feels dumb is a completely different feeling from how she felt in Mexico where she, "understood every word they'd say" (Line 4). Yearning for that familiarity of the bond between her children and herself she, "bought a book to learn English" (Line 12). This is her only way to adjust to her new setting and because she feared that one day she, "will be deaf/ when (her) children need (her) help" (Line 21-22).

Martha Nussbaum describes the romantic ascent of various characters in Wuthering Heights through a philosophical Christian view. She begins by describing Catherine as a lost soul searching for heaven, while in reality she longs for the love of Heathcliff. Nussbaum continues by comparing Heathcliff as the opposition of the ascent from which the Linton’s hold sacred within their Christian beliefs. Nussbaum makes use of the notion that the Christian belief in Wuthering Heights is both degenerate and way to exclude social classes.
Connotative is having the authority of implying or suggesting and opinion in addition to what is explicit.4 Klein said, “While the dog denotes a four –legged, hairy animal, when used of a person in the statement, “You dog!” it usually communicates an emotive sense of dis-approval…”dog” figuratively stands for a person, and it has a connotation it does not have in the use, “Harley is our family dog.”5 On the other hand, denotative is the literal meaning of the word. Likewise, performing a word study is time consuming, yet very rewarding. So, to execute a word properly, Duvall listed four steps: First, look for words that are crucial to the passage. Everything in the passage depends on the meaning of these words.6 Second, Look for repeated words. Usually the author will signal theme words by repeating them. Third, look for figures of speech. Here words are used not in a literal sense but as word pictures or images. Lastly, look for words that are unclear, puzzling, or difficult…the most important words are those that give you trouble, and if a word gives you trouble, study it some

Emily Bronte’s Wuthering Heights is an English classic filled with love, heartache, and death. Many mysterious literary conventions are used in the novel, including ghostly spirits, weather, and the infamous love triangle. The person who holds this remarkable story is Nelly, who in present day would be the old lady at church who knows everybody’s secrets. With the drama and detail each of the characters hold, everything is not what it seems.
Wuthering Heights is a work marked by a complexity of characterization. Perhaps most complex of all is Emily’s portrayal of Catherine Earnshaw as a victim and a victimizer. With such qualities, Catherine’s character was violently at odds with ideals of the Victorian womanhood. Namely, that a woman should be a passive, obedient, and an angel in the house. (Towheed, 2012). Indeed, not major characteristics of Catherine Earnshaw. However, while being a victimizer, Catherine’s brutality could be justified in a way that would not affect one’s own sympathizes for her.
Wuthering Heights is not just only a love story but a novel with great contradiction amongst the relationships of the characters. Emily Brontë has written a classic novel using several different types of tone and diction based on who was telling the story of Wuthering Heights. Not only was the novel written in a narrative style of writing but also in the form of a journal told by Mr. Lockwood. Reading the words of Wuthering Heights from both Lockwood and Nelly’s perspective gives the reader a better grasp of the true significance of Wuthering Heights.
She realized that her "mother tongue" has become their "language of intimacy, a different sort of English that relates to family talk,..."(Tan 61) Her "mother tongue" is the English she uses while she is in her first world, her private world, which is a completely different cultural community.
African American literature is the body of work produced in the United States by writers of African descent. This particular genre traces back to the works from the late eighteenth century by writers such as Phillis Wheatley to later reaching early high points with slave narratives and the Harlem Renaissance, and thus continuing today with authors such as Colson Whitehead and Maya Angelou. Among the themes and issues explored within African American literature are the roles of African Americans within the larger American society, African-American culture, racism, slavery, and equality. African American writing has also tended to incorporate oral forms such as spirituals, gospel music, jazz, and rap. Dating back to the pre-Revolutionary War period, African American writers have engaged in a creative dialogue with American letters. The result is a literature rich in culture and social insight. These pieces offer illuminating assessments of American identities as well as its history. Since the time of early slavery African American literature has been overlooked within the literature criticism. This essay thrives to show that within the English profession African American literature does belong alongside the great works such as A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens and poetry as A Road less taken by Robert Frost. I will dive deep into history to not only investigate what critics think about African American literature, but why is it not held to a higher standard just as American
Wuthering Heights was composed by Emily Bronte and Great Expectations was composed by Charles Dickens as they were illustrations of the Victorian novel. Both novels reflect the conditions of the 19th century in England which showed a lot of progress in many aspects. Through the growth and development of the English Empire, industrialism and capitalism which caused a lot of dramatic changes in the society. Causing cultural differences among the classes, changing the social roles, meanwhile it made a lot of financial concerns which created a conflict in people’s lives. Which was clearly seen in the characters of these novels where they tried to adjust concerning on their personal individual desires and expectations of the society especially during their transition from youth to maturity. In my research my objective is that both novels deals with nearly similar issues that can be compared to each other in theme of love, marriage, revenge, and social class.
Wuthering Heights is a great literary work which keeps the audience exited from the beginning till the end of the novel. Some novels are monotonous in the way they are written and lack ideas to keep the novel move forward but this novel is an exception. Author keeps the audience guessing throughout this novel and that is one of the fundamental reasons for acceptance of this book even by the audience of this generation. Wuthering Heights basically revolves around its two main characters Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff .The novel portrays the emotional and destructive love between its two central characters mentioned above. Catherine and Heathcliff's love heads to a totally different direction as we move forward in
