I know have a better understanding of how to write a correct paper in APA format as well as in my own words. Plagiarism is defined as “an act or instance of using or closely imitating the language and thoughts of another author without authorization and the representation of that author’s work as one’s one, as by not crediting the original author.” (dictionary.com, 2016). Before this week, I did not understand fully what plagiarism meant in detail. My understanding was that as long as I changed a few words or rewrote the author’s ideas into my own words then that was not considered plagiarism. After this mistake happened this week I learned that this is not a true statement and that there is so much more in the definition of plagiarism. Even if you rewrite what the author says in your own words, you still need to give the author credit and cited the name of author, date, and page number if there is one. While at the academic studio I was also taught the correct way to write a reference page in APA format. When you are citing a quote in your paper you put the date at the beginning of the quote in parenthesis. This is the same for a reference page, I always thought that you just put the date and then a period. You type the page number at the end of the quote as …show more content…
I am now aware that there are different websites that you can submit your paper to that will check the grammar and check for any plagiarism. If I do put an authors quotes in my writings, then I will be sure to give them credit for it. Even if I rewrite their ideas into my own words I will be sure to give credit still. I now have a clear understanding of what plagiarism truly means and the correct way to cite the author when using quotes. Also, I have a clear understanding of how to write a paper in the correct APA format and a reference page as
One important aspect I gained by taking the APA quiz is that there is no time frame for plagiarism. Another aspect is that Walden University professors can give you an “F” on a paper that shows plagiarism (Walden University, n.d.). I included this because I thought that should you have plagiarized then the first course of action was to be put on academic probation. I am glad to now know that this is not the case, although I will continue to view this as such to avoid plagiarism in any of my papers.

Is Apa a good man? I wonder this to myself a lot during this book. Some might argue a definite no and go on to say he is a terrible role model and a terrible person. While some might argue there are good qualities and that he goes through so much for his family and perhaps he just shows his love and dedication for his family in a harsh way.
In 1992, I stated to have pain in my stomach that accrued almost every time I ate. The pain was so severe that I would stop eating most meals and leave from the table. I also experience painful urine tract and kidney infections, which was odd for a person that drunk as much water as I did. My father suggest that I should go to Dr. Brown, a Gastroenterologist, because he didn’t like the results from the other doctors. Before I could call him for an appointment, I got sick, went to ER and had to be admitted in the hospital. After taking several tests, a mass was notice in my stomach. He said that he was sure that it was cancer. He needed to schedule an operation within the next two weeks. I was only 25 years old and was very scared. As a family,
There are essentially two approaches to documentation: numbered, in which the citation appears in a footnote or endnote, and parenthetical, in which it appears in-text.
As I have stated in previous discussions, I have absolutely zero experience with APA formatting and it’s a little intimidating to me. With that said, The Avoiding Plagiarism tutorial went a long way in building my confidence in APA formatting and knowing the things to do and avoid when it comes to citing sources. When I used to think of academic plagiarism, I would imagine someone copying and pasting some article on the internet into their word document and putting their name on it. Although that is plagiarism, it doesn’t have to be that extreme. A person could commit plagiarism by simply paraphrasing the Author of an article incorrectly or not using quotation marks when directly quoting someone. Despite seeing the definition of plagiarism
With the self-assessment in this week’s reading I had to really become brutally honest with myself. In order to know where you are in life, it is helpful to self-assess yourself (Bethel University, 2014). At first, I found myself quickly answering them and when I finished I went back through to make sure that I did not miss anything. While going back through them I found that I was not being completely honest with myself. I had to redo some questions but I was happy with the results. This assessment made me open my eyes to little things that I have not noticed before, which was very helpful.
I intend to pursue a degree in the medical field. Upon undertaking a job in the medical field, numerous college professors will require you to grasp how to write APA style. APA stands for the American Physiological Association and is generally used in social sciences. All through during high school MLA has been stressed as the major style of writing, assuming APA will be difficult to write is outside of my jurisdiction. MLA and APA have several similarities. Both text styles are double spaced, must include either a “references” or “work cited” page, and anything that is not original must be cited. In contrast, papers written in APA and MLA will have an evident difference in appearance. APA always requires a title page
It is important to utilize APA style in academic writing. APA formatting provides clarity and consistency of the academic papers. The guidelines and standard of APA help to use certain structure, grammar, punctuation and proper language to ease the communication among the students and their professors. APA style frames the exact format of a document to easily access the required information. The guidelines of APA format provide credibility to the writing and gives credit to the original author by following the in-text citation and adding a reference list page at the end of the paper. To avoid plagiarism, the students follow APA directions in quoting and paraphrasing their work.
In addition, nurses need to educate adolescent to create supportive peer relationships that allow discussion of feelings, concerns and fears (Harvey 2015). For teenagers with physical disabilities or illnesses, who are particularly susceptible to peer rejection, nurses should encourage peer understanding and acceptance through conversation within the peer group about the possible difficulties that an individual with a particular physical condition might experience (Harvey 2015). Education for parents is also required as they need to acknowledge the significance of peer group activities for adolescents that can encourage appropriate ethical and spiritual values, and the need for a comfortable home environment for the appropriate peer group activities (Harvey 2015).
Plagiarism is a very common mistake many writers can make without even realizing it. As a college student my academic integrity is very important to me. A person’s academic integrity is the hard work and honesty that represents someone. Plagiarism is something that I believe that can be intentional or unintentional based on the circumstances for the writer. As a beginning writer I remember not feeling comfortable citing sources because I didn’t believe I was doing it correctly. Or perhaps the idea when I was researching for a topic I was putting writing in my own words, but somehow I could’ve made another author’s words similar to my own without thinking about it. Plagiarism in most cases is intentional. My definition is the act of stealing
APA and MLA's citation both differ by how to put your name, what they call it, and where to put the page number. In APA format the page to cite sources at the end of the work is called “references”, while MLA format is called “works cited”. When information is being cited and the authors name is in a sentence, you need to place the year the material was published in parenthesis after the authors name if you are using
As we all know, APA is known as American Psychological Association. It is used as a guide for students to learn how to properly format their paper and sources. This style of writing tells you how to include the title page, headings, page numbers, in text citations, punctuation, capitalization, italics and how the references should be formatted. According to the guidelines for APA, the font size must be 12 pt in Times New Roman, one inch margin and double spaced consistently. If it is not in double spacing, use the word processor to correct it for you. In text citations and a reference list is extremely important because you are letting the reader know where you got your information from. The three elements of an in text citation follows in
3. The hardest type of plagiarism for me is APA citation. I have a habit of re-wording the information I study or find without citing who said what. I fail to give credit where it is due. Sometimes I will remember to put the author's name , and forget the year it was published. On several occasions I have paraphrased other writings in which more than one author was responsible for the writing, in which I only recognized one author without recognizing the other. After going through the lesson about plagiarism, I plan to re-check my work to ensure i am not plagiarizing. I will cite all sources to ensure no one is left out as well
In the APA case study paper, I wrote about “A student body President sent home for wearing this outfit”. I took all the information from the article and created an outline. I had two partners revise and edit the paper. My weakness was that I had some bad word choices and had trouble putting the paragraphs together. My strengths were writing and putting together the sentences.
