APA Style Reflection

When this class started at the beginning of this semester I was not sure I would learn a lot. The main objectives of this class were fairly simple. There were five main objectives to use and know. They are the following:

I think the most challenging courses I took this year was AP Lang but not because of the work or reading but because I did not give me 100% in that class. I think that is something I did wrong and I should have changed that as fast as I could. My grade could have been better in that class then what I got both semesters. The expectations I wanted to meet did not end up that way and actually ended bad for me which I regret. Some of the strengths I discovered this year was being able to ask questions and participate in class without being embarrassed and also talk to my teachers individually which was something that was really hard for me freshman and sophomore year. 1. I received your email about Mini Writing Assignment Three regarding your concerns about how this particular paper is baffling to you. Even though, you sent me this your concern a week ago, for some odd reason it sent to my inbox this afternoon. For the most part, I agree with you that the paper is unlike the paper that I have written before during this class. Actually, this is one of the worst papers that I have written during my educational journey so far, because the example in the course textbook signaled to me that I am basically supposed to write the paper from my perspective. For example, using no references and argue for both sides of the argument the best way I possibly can. Furthermore, you stated that I didn't submit the final draft either. This year was to be my fourth year in a row attending MLA. I spoke in 2006, interviewed for jobs in 2007, spoke and interviewed in 2008, and had hoped to speak and interview for jobs this year as well. When the job interviews did not materialize, I made the difficult decision to not attend the convention given the financial realities of being an adjunct faculty member. I regretted not having the chance to speak—especially on a panel titled “Today’s Teachers, Today’s Students: Economics”—but the panel chair volunteered to deliver my paper in absentia.

On Wednesday morning, I wondered if I will do well on my AP Lang test. For one, the thought of not knowing if the essays provided on the exam would be harder or easier was uncomfortable. However, I know everyone else is in the same situation as me. Mrs. bandelier instructed us with care, but the moment she said we may open out packet and answer sheets, the pressure and the stress all come pounding down on me. “This is it. I either pass or fail” is what I tell myself. The fact that I read slower and answer slower doesn’t assure me. What surprises me was on the exam this year, 5 essays were included instead of four. The pages before a new chapter are usually the most exciting or nerve wracking to read. Those pages determine whether or not one should continue to the next chapter and potentially finish the book or put it down for another day. Metaphorically, this class is those last pages. As a senior in high school, this is my last dual credit and high school English class. Whether I stayed focused in the class and continue to apply my knowledge from this semester to my future college English classes or not depended on my efforts. During this semester, I received plenty of insights about proper MLA citation and grammar.

What shocked me the most about this experiment is the lack of people actually using the parks in Michigan. 4,300 people is really not a very big number, especially when considering that the town I grew up in has more than 6,000 people living there. This statistic is kind of sad considering that if this study had been down about thirty years ago I am absolutely positive that the number of people visiting parks would be at least double what it is now. I would assume that the lower number of attendees probably has some type of correlation with the increased use of technology like phones and video games. On the other hand, if this survey were to be completed in another thirty years I would expect numbers of individuals using the park to be even lower due to the fact that technology will be even more advanced and that they will probably have a virtual reality park that kids can pretend to be playing at. Researchers also categorized the types of activities that people were found doing into three categories: sedentary, walking, and vigorous.

I am writing to you because I really need your help. I believe there are some inconsistencies in the grading of my final term paper. I think the issues spotting section of my paper has not been graded correctly and that contributed in significantly dropping my overall grade for this class. I had 18 and 19.5 on the ethical and legal paper respectively; I had 10 out of 10 on the discussions. My overall grade was A until the term paper factored in. I wanted an A for this class and I am really disappointed that the last paper was used as a mean to bring me down. I was given this case file in class but I have no idea what to do with this. I was partnered up with my table mate Katie. “I bet you all are wondering why you have this case. Well you are going to determine if your defendant should be guilt or innocence. And on monday we will go over your decisions. We will later write a paper in class on your decision. Any questions?”, Mr. Myers says. I see Kian raises his hand in the corner of my eye. “Seems pretty easy she was hang so she’s guilty.”. The class chuckles at his comment. I watch the Mr. Meyers take a deep breath and walk over. He takes the paper. “Explain to me the evidence you gained to make that decision.”. Kian swallows hard and looks away. “Exactly. Now make sure you explain your reasoning. Have a good weekend.”

I was very excited to begin my dietetic rotation at Women, Infants, and Children Food and Nutrition Services. I was even more thrilled that my location site was close to my house, making a job opportunity an option after my internship is complete.
