“The first fundamental canon in the ASCE Code of Ethics is, “Engineers shall hold paramount the safety, health and welfare of the public and shall strive to comply with the principles of sustainable development in the performance of their professional duties” (ASCE 2006 ). The relevant guideline is,“ Engineers shall approve or seal only those design documents, reviewed or prepared by them, which are determined to be safe for public health and welfare in conformity with accepted engineering standards.” The engineers involved were the first to admit they made changes without the adequate review that is required to fulfill the requirements of this first fundamental canon (Montgomery 2001). If the design changes had been checked, the engineers…show more content…
In civil engineering an example of emerging technology is high performance steel (HPS). The benefits related to HPS include enhancements in: weldability, toughness, corrosion resistance, ductility, and strength. These factors lead to construction elements of higher economic efficiency, ease of maintenance, and longer service life. [13] Some owner takes the risk because it requires more welding control and standard fabrication process. I think the transition of using HPS is a great idea because structures are 100% recyclable and cost is not absurd as other materials. Ethics are applied as fabrication and welding is tedious and must be done to code. In both computer network analyst and information security emerging technology we see is the cloud storing. Clouding computing is defined as utilization of computing services, such as software as well as hardware as a service over a network. Cloud base examples are iCloud, Dropbox, and google drive as these services store data. Cloud computing reduces IT infrastructure cost of the company, promotes the concept of virtualization, which enables server and storage device to be utilized across organization, makes maintenance of software and hardware easier as installation is not required on each end user’s computer. Some issues concerning cloud computing are privacy, compliance, security, and etcetera. With ethics, it is best to keep personal information to
