ASPMN is the organization that stuck out to me the most. Being a nurse a lot of times involves helping people in pain. I think it’s extremely important to help patients manage their pain in order to make their experience not as miserable or to put them at ease so they can get the rest they need. On the organization’s website it mentioned that one of their missions was to promote optimal nursing care. That is so essential and another reason I want to be a part of this organization. Nurses need to stay educated and well informed on how to care for the patient in the best way possible. The final reason is because it is a great organization, because pain management is something I could specialize in. I could one day be aiding people in some
A discussion regarding the health care reform or even health care in general can be somewhat controversial. The definition of health is drastically different depending on whom you speak to. Many would define health as " a person's absence of disease, others would describe good health based on the status of mind, body & social well-being" (GCU Lecture, module 2, 2012). According to The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language, health is defined as "The overall condition of an organism at a given time". An individual's overall health affects the nation, this is where stakeholders come into value. According to Keele, Buckner & Bushnell a stakeholder is either an individual or an organization that either invest time and
Hello, today I will be writing a paper about the similarities and differences between the story Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka and the movie Billy Elliot. I will not be writing a comparison of the story, but of the two main characters.
I am glad that I have chosen to enter the Cox ASN program because I have always wanted to help people live a healthier lifestyle. My goal is to be an advocate for the patients and to bridge the communication between the patient and their doctors. I want every patient to understand the choices they will be making regarding their health. Also, I want to contribute to positive patient care and outcomes for the Cox medical system. I plan to start my journey in the medical field as an ASN nurse which will then lay the groundwork to eventually becoming a nurse practitioner one day. I believe in order to accomplish my goals I will need to complete it in stages to ensure my success. Also, I think doing this will make me a more thoughtful and compassionate
Reflecting over the last eight weeks has really opened my eyes to how much I have learned. Until this class, I thought that each state required the same things to become an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN). I just assumed each state had a board, like the Mississippi board of Nursing. It was really interesting that each state requires different things. I also was not aware that some states allow independent nursing without a collaborator. The state of Mississippi requires that the APN be in collaboration with a physician. I never really thought that this would ever be an option for the state of Mississippi. With that being said, I can understand why physicians would feel threatened with job security. I reside in a rural
In CS1 it is challenging for a nurse to develop new set of roles in conjunction with the term advanced practice nursing (APN), in the area of the direct role of the nurse practitioner (NP). APN’s are expected a broader more comprehensive insight of the vast complexity of health related circumstances than nurses that are in the lower more entry levels. What this means for the APN is that they have to reevaluate themselves and their healthcare contexts. During the case study driven by ambitions there are specific requirements needed in order for this study to be effective. The participants and tools that are needed for this case study are as follows, a nurse practitioner (NP)/advanced practice nurse (APN), NP students, hospital settings
Nursing is a complex and ever changing field full of new areas to advance, learn, and grow in. Some of the institutes available for nursing studies are Harkum College and West Chester University. Kristine Balay, the nurse I interviewed, attended Harkum College for her Associates degree in Nursing and she attended West Chester University for her Bachelors degree in Nursing. She has been practicing as a nurse for about 10 years now in various settings. When she was working on a trauma unit she was required to obtain an ALS certification, Kristine admits that she was grateful for obtaining this certification because it sets her apart from others in regards to job opportunities and promotions as well as gives her confidence in situations.
ESSAY QUESTION #3 – How did slavery impact the economic and political development of the southern colonies and later the southern states? What were conditions like for slaves in the southern U.S.?
Palumbo, Marth, and Rambur (2011) stipulate that over the years, advanced practice nurses have continued to avail care that is of top quality. Subsequently, they have been able to create a recognized place within the healthcare system. By 2012, it was reported that there was an approximate number of 240, 000 advanced practice nurses (Newhouse et al., 2012). The report also added to the assertion by Palumbo, Marth, and Rambur (2011) through the indication that advanced practice nurses offer their services in settings that need a heightened range of professional independence while providing healthcare. What concerns their function, LaBrocca and Angosta (2016) indicate that as a health expert, an advanced practice nurse foresees issues in healthcare
Meaningful appropriation remains a vital precept of creativity and innovation. In the last 20 years, many artists have constructed knowledge in forms of contemporary art from both social and cultural sources. Artists have continuously remixed contents from certain cultures for new expressive purposes. It is often deemed by members of the originating cultures, that appropriation in the arts is disrespectful, as cultural elements become distorted and lost in translation. Meaningful appropriation however is often misunderstood and is mainly viewed as borrowing that is in some way inappropriate, unauthorised or undesirable. Although, artists in remix culture have not necessarily attempted to destroy cultures, but instead offer a new perspective to individuals by bringing divergent cultures together through art. Artists such as Stella McCartney, a designer famously known for her creation ‘Chinatown Plaid, 2013’ in fashion, utilises dominant creative strategies such as remixing and collaging of fabrics in order to convey her artistic vision, which highly compliments both the ‘Refugee’ work culture and female individuals as strong and resilient. In a similar sense, digital artist Michael Guppy remixes artworks using programs such as Adobe Photoshop in order to remove central elements from famous artworks, a reoccurring theme in his work in which he explores both the social and cultural side of technology and how it transforms society. Whereas, graphic designer Thomas Robson
Going back to when I was a novice nurse, I was nervous, scared, afraid of making medication error, charting errors or fail to recognized patients worsening symptoms. These fears, made me vigilant, focused and kept me on my toes at all times. No matter which part of nursing I ended up as I grew up the from medical surgical nursing to stepdown unit nursing to intensive care nursing, I felt those fears in every step of my growth and they helped me be a better nurse for my pateints. Today, I am in the advanced practitioner program to become a nurse practitioner who is responsible for: interviewing, assessing, diagnosing, counseling and treating patients. To provide safe and quality healthcare, I am expected to have good critical thinking and decision making abilities (Maten-Speksnijder, Grypdonck, Pool, & Streumer, 2012). while I can recognize clinically deteriorating patients and recommend treatments, I am now responsible for providing treatments. I am now recognizing that facts about being not only responsible for the patient, but also to provide safe care that keeps the patient out of the hospital and out of the ICU. Knowing these facts, I am yet again, faced with the fears of my limited clinical practice knowledge as a practitioner. The amount of information that I have received and learned during this clinical rotation was both exciting and overwhelming at the same time, because I realized as a novice student nurse practitioner (NP), the limited depth of
The medical field of nursing is based on servitude in God’s mission and through the means of compassion. Our missional goals must align with God’s (Wright, 2012). Nursing consists of care and compassion for the disadvantaged, weak, sick, and injured. This is in addition to the pursuit of high standards in professionalism, articulated in the delivery of a valuable service that is based on unique knowledge and experience, performed ethically, and practiced autonomously. The major characteristic of compassion is from God and how it relates to this world of professionalism is seen through nursing. Any job that advances God’s work in the world is a Godly choice (Col. 1:16-20).
Advance practice nurses (APNs) are at the forefront of today’s healthcare system. To keep up with the aging population and the demands of complex healthcare needs of this society, APNs need to perform at the highest quality to provide efficient, effective, holistic and improve patient outcome and satisfaction while reducing cost. To provide such care, APNs need to implement the six core competencies as outlined by Hamric. These six core competencies are: direct clinical practice, expert coaching and advice, consultation, research skills, clinical and professional leadership, collaboration, and ethical decision-making. This paper will explore how APNs can implement each of the six core competencies to support the effective improvement of outcomes such as patient satisfaction, readmissions, cost, health status, and complications. In addition, each of the six core competencies of the APN’s role identified by Hamric will be outlined and applied using a fictitious patient case study.
Advanced Practice nursing (APN) is considered the usage of a broader scope of constructive, logical and research-based expertise related to the health and well-being of patients, within a varying disciplines (DeNisco & Barker, 2013). What is the future position of APNs in the progression of our healthcare system? What role will this writer assume, educator, practitioner, population health coach, or all three? The use of theory, primarily Sister Callista Roy’s Adaptation Model, and EBP give this writer a firm foundation to develop and modify her own practice framework.
Reasons I would join the American Nurses Association include the online higher learning and continuing education opportunities, membership fees helping further advocacy efforts on reforms of all nurses including, the Affordable Care Act, RN Reinvestment Act, and Needle stick Safety and Prevention Act, and membership also supporting periodicals including The American Nurse, American Nurse Today, and the Online Journal of Issues in Nursing. Because science and technology are constantly evolving, nurses need to keep up with the changes that affect the healthcare system. Continuing education courses are required to stay up-to-date in nursing practices and ANA offers them with discounted prices. ANA offers many peer-reviewed clinical articles that pertain to my field of expertise. I can gain a personal and professional support system of other nurses who can share my interests and concerns thru ANA. I can voice my issues that affect my nursing practice and licensure.
In this paper, I will be discussing my learning experiences during term three. In order to classify and expand on what I have learned, I will be writing about two roles I have assumed as a student nurse, how I have developed those roles through theory and practice, how my thinking has changed, and what I would like to change in the future.
