This weekend, there was an alleged ISIS-Inspired knife attack in Roanoke, Virginia. An adult Arab male, allegedly hollered “Allahu akbar” while attacking two people, which was described by police as an attempt to decapitate at least one of the victims. The suspect was arrested by the Roanoke County Police Department for malicious wounding. According to the media, the FBI is investigating this as a terrorist attack (FBI investigating whether Virginia stabbings were ISIS-inspired, 2016).
CNN reporters stated that “On Tuesday January 31st, 2017 In what the Prime Minister called a terrorist attack. The three Americans who recently stopped a terrorist attack on a passenger train in Europe have finally talked about the ordeal. Spencer Stone, one of the people who helped stop the attack, stated that he saw Moroccan Ayoub El-Khazzani holding an assault rifle. That was when Stone and his two friends stopped the attacker by choking him unconscious.
The FBI treated the incident as a terrorist act, but the motive was not determined. The FBI found that Farook communicated with domestic and foreign extremists in the past, including five individuals who had been investigated by the FBI for possible terrorist activities. Law enforcement authorities obtained phones, which were highly damaged, and a computer from the couple’s home. Authorities were unable to determine the shooters’ motive but narrowed it to two possibilities—terrorism or work-place violence. However, aside from the physical evidence found, the couple was radicalized before they got married, had gone to a shooting range days before they attacked the health center, and an explosive was found at the health center. Thus,
One factor that contributed to the September 11 attacks is the long history of unrest between America and the Middle East. The USS Cole Bombings were basically just a warm up for Al-Qaeda to see how much they could do to the US. On October 2nd, 2000, in a port off of Yemen, suicide bombers boarded the USS Cole and blew a hole in the hull. The bombers killed 17 men. When the United States pulled from Lebanon in 1983 and their withdraw from Somalia in 1993 shocked the world but Bin Laden saw the attack and retreats in a totally different light. According to “The National Interest” Bin Laden said America was a “paper tiger” (24). He meant that as a country we look very strong and tough, but when the actual fighting starts, we will fall within a few attacks and be defeated.
The terrorist responsible for this attack is Timothy McVeigh. Months before the bombing, McVeigh, along with his accomplice Terry Nichols, was believed to be involved in an “anti-government militia group” (Casey 3). McVeigh believed the government was devising a plan to deprive him and as well as the rest of his country of their rights as Americans to bear arms (Casey).
I believe terrorism comes from hate as well; I also believe it is something that is taught as a justified act. This kind of hatred in most cases comes from many generations and is passed down the line. It is similar to racism because it stem from hatred as well. When individuals or groups of people can do violent harmful things against innocent people to me it is defined as hate. When you think about the different attacks against the United States you can clearly see the level of hatred they have for the American people. They are willing and ready to sacrifice their own lives in the name of terrorism. (111 words)

To Kill a Mockingbird was published right as the Civil Rights Movement peaked in the 1960s. A controversial trial that occured during Lee’s childhood sparked her interest in the subject of civil injustices in the south. When she was five, it was rumored that nine black men raped two white women. After many long, harsh and highly publicized trials, the nine men were sentenced to lengthy prison time. In any choice that we as humans make, there is always going to be a consequence that comes with that decision; whether it be positive or negative. Making decisions is an ordinary part of our everyday lives, some of those decisions may be bigger than others. The short story I decided to display that contains the idea of choice and consequence is The Second Bakery Attack by Haruki Murakami. Looking at the symbolism and techniques of language in this short story through the reader’s-response theory, I was able to interpret the story from my point of view and give my thoughts and opinions on it as I read it. While reading the story, I was able to identify a recurring theme of choice. Choice plays a huge role throughout this short story.
Few realize how loud their expressions really are. Be kind with what you wordlessly say.” A quote from a popularly known author, Richelle E. Goodrich. We speak not only from our words but from our expressions. Many time, these expressions are unknown and are just caught upon from our surroundings. Our brain takes in this information and we do not really know how these expressions developed. In our day to day verbal activities, we follow up with so many non-verbal ques like the sounds we make following our words, or the way we pronounce these words. The use of pitch and pace of our voice and words to make interesting conversations. The clothing we wear based on the social norms we follow or just based on our culture or traditions. The use of our distance to known and unknown people. The use of eye contact to express the level of intensifications, the actual emphasis of the emotion running in the brain at the time. The uses of pauses in our speech and the judging of the expressions on other peoples faces. Misjudging of emotions carried along with another emotion because of the lack of understanding of mixed emotions, to give which emotion the priority during that situation. This media analysis focuses on the nonverbal communication and its different aspects in the movie “Inside Out”. Inside out is a movie about a girl and the five major emotions that control her life based on daily situations she faces. This movie is enriched with nonverbal communication as the emotions are
Are vaccinations safe and effective for our children? That become the significant rising question many parents discuss about it, before they give vaccination for their children. There are diseases have been eradicated by vaccination. For example, the smallpox is eradicated in 1977. Also there are diseases will be eliminating soon by vaccination such as, the measles. But this disease is spreading in some regions of the world because of ignorant campaigns against vaccination. Although many countries have compulsory vaccinations, there are parents refuse giving their children vaccination.
