Abigail Adams was born on November 11th, 1744 in Weymouth, Massachusetts, to Reverend William Smith and Elizabeth Quincy Smith.
Abigail did not receive a proper education, instead, she was educated at home. She learned domestic skills and did the rest of her learning from her father’s great library.
In 1764, she married her third cousin, John Adams, who was a country lawyer. After marrying Adams, she moved to Braintree, MA and raised four children. However, she had a total of 6 children, one of which died in infancy and the other was stillborn.
John Adams travelled a lot during their marriage due to his law career, then later because of him serving as a delegate to the Continental Congress and being heavily involved in the Revolutionary War
In 1774, he was elected to the Provincial Congress of Massachusetts and simultaneously to the Continental Congress. He married Dorothy Quincy on August 23, 1775 and they had two children. His daughter is named Lydia Hancock, and his son is named John George Washington Hancock.
