In Arthur Miller's The Crucible Abigail uses the Betty’s sickness as a way for her to gain power and popularity by arousing the emotions from the townspeople to start the Salem Witch trials. It is Abigail who first accuses Tituba as being the one with the witchcraft and using it to gain followers. After Tituba gives names to the adults of others involved in witchcraft Abigail uses this opportunity to name others she does not agree with. Abigail’s relationship with the other characters in the book cuase her to dislike then such as her relationship with John and Elizabeth Proctor. Over the course of Abigail’s service for the Proctor family she had an affair with John; eventually Elizabeth John’s wife found out and kick the girl out. When John
