For my project, I researched the Abner Pollard Mausoleum. I live one street away from the cemetery and had never known that it was a grave. I have been able to increase my knowledge on hima along with the culture of the late 1800s in Leominster as well as in the world.
Abner Pollard was born in Leominster on February 26, 1839. His father was Amory Pollard from Lancaster, Born in 1804. His father was a farmer and comb manufacturer and died in 1890. Abner Pollard became secretary to the Butterick Publishing Co for 30 years, prior to this he was in the merchant tailoring and clothing business. The Butterick Publishing Co was founded by Ebenezer Butterick, whom was born on May 29, 1826 in Sterling. Ebenezer started this company that would soon
I knew that my hometown of Blairsville, Pennsylvania was a rich historical place before my research. I turned to visiting the historical society in my town for my information, there I was given a tour of a historical house where all of the artifacts had been donated. After looking into the history and the other elements of the town, I found out that the place where I grew up was so much more history than I could have ever imagined.
Most events and places of historical value nowadays holds little value in our lives. We confine ourselves to our interstates and highways, following the long line of motel chains stopping for maybe two minutes to take a picture just to say we were there. We take nothing away from these sites that is of real value. We barely scratch at the surface of information and true meaning of what happened at these historical sites. Rinker Buck explains his own experience with removing himself from this cultural norm
The graves of many famous people are at Arlington Nationel Cemetary. It did not start out that way. In 1861, a Confederate General and his wife owned the house and the land. That General was Robert E. Lee. His house was across the river from Washington, D.C. The Union Army took over the land at the start of the Civil War. Union soldiers that were killed in the war was buried near the house. These soldiers were poor. Their families could not pay for them to be buried. Arlington was called a "potter's field." A potters field is a place where poor or unknown people are buried. After the war, something odd started to happen. Union officers asked to be buried at Arlington. They wanted to be near those men who had been in the war with them. Americans
About 18 miles North East of Manhattan there isn’t much around but small hills covered in crop fields and the occasional farmstead. If you drive just a little ways up King Road, just off highway 13 you will find a cemetery with a sign above two wire gates that says King’s Cemetery. There are three other names listed below King’s Cemetery, other names the grounds have been know as. One of these names is Adam’s Peak. This is rather strange considering the cemetery is not on a peak, nor is there a single stone bearing the name Adam. Upon further investigation you will find Adam’s Peak was, during the 1870’s and 80’s, a town and community.

I visited the Stones River Battlefield located in Murfreesboro, TN. I chose this locating, because it was close and convenient for me to explore in-between classes one day. I actually learned quite a bit about the land and what took place there in 1862. Some information was giving to me shortly after I enter their visitor center, and I was guided in the right direction to help me with my paper.
The City of Miami Cemetery was built in 1897 during Miami’s pioneer era, as a result of tradeoff of ten acres of land territory, made by the City of Miami and one of the City’s founder families, the Brickell’s. The purpose of this funeral landmark was creating a place to commemorate people’s lives, as William and Mary Brickell wished. According to the data, it is the oldest and only municipal cemetery in Dade County. During 1897 and 1898 this place was laid out and divided into plots, this made easily the organization of the families who were buried. It provides a historical resemblance to the late 19th Century and the early 20th century when it comes to the architectural headstones and classical mausoleums of the Cemetery. Also has visual

Cemeteries intrigue me, and Oakland is no exception to this interest. After years of constant bypassing the cemetery in route to school, I first decided to visit around September of my junior year, and explored the entire cemetery for the next two days. I was immediately infatuated, and have returned 5 more times since then. Throughout my tour I was able to view the beautiful statues, weathered graves, and memorial that held a surplus of information about the social statuses of these individuals, their struggles, and ancestry.
The cemetery I chose to visit and explore was the Woodlawn Cemetery in the Bronx. On the way to the cemetery I couldn’t help but feel anxious. When I began to drive past the cemetery to its entrance, all I could see were miles and miles of headstones. It was eerie to say the least. As a kid, whenever my family would drive by a cemetery, my siblings and I would hold our breath until we passed so as to not breathe in the wandering, lost souls. Actually going into a cemetery to look around seemed counterintuitive, I wasn’t sure if I would be able to hold my breath for that long. It didn’t help that right when I entered those black gates that separated the living from the dead, clouds of smoke and ash permeated the air around me due to bodies being cremated on site.
