The Australian media plays a highly significant role in delivering news and issues within our communities, constructing a certain portrayal and view of Indigenous people in Australia by ones perception and understanding of current issues within the media, internet and newspapers, powerfully persuades ones public opinion. Trewin (2005), attributes factors of poor health throughout the Australian media’s representation of Indigenous communities lack of education, high rates of alcoholism, drug use consumption, impecunious quality housing and deplorable lifestyle options that are a consequence of adverse and rising un-employment rates within Aboriginal cultures. Further, implementing a rise towards poor health continuing onto next generation Aboriginals due to the Australian Medias negative perception and portrayal of Aboriginal culture within society. The media has identified and presented Indigenous communities as poor and terrible environmental conditions in which are not livable for individuals to be born, grown, lived and aged in due to the deteriorating affects which are notably and evidently explored throughout the media (Trewin, 2005). These unequal conditions are, in turn, an artifact of appalling politics, insufficient social policies, programs, and unfair economic alignments within society (Trewin, 2005).
