Individualism is defined as someone being independent and self-reliant. Because of new restrictions passed by the Texas legislature, majority of abortion clinics are closing. They believe terminating these clinics would be a good means; thus many women would not be able to obtain an abortion. However, every woman is different and should not be seen as a group. Having a child does not affect all women in the same way. Women have abortions for many different reasons. According to Melody Rose’s book “Safe, Legal, and Unavailable” nearly half of all pregnancies are unintended and 54 percent of those unintended pregnancies end in abortion. It is stated that majority of women are not financially able or responsible enough to bare a child. Every woman …show more content…
Countless Americans would do almost anything to live their lives according to their American ideals or standard of living. Not having access to an abortion clinic would only be getting in the way as well as causing harm to women. Would less abortion clinics nearby help the rate of abortions? In Kala Kachmar’s newspaper article, “Alabama House Passes 4 Anti-Abortion Bills” she expresses the fact that there are more dangerous means to self-remedy abortions rather than having an abortion in a health center. Although the states believe this would be a good idea, there are not less abortions because of the many clinics closing; citizens in Texas and Alabama are taking desperate measures to get rid of their babies …show more content…
Haleema Shakur expresses in her article “Safety and acceptability of medical abortion at home” that numerous single woman who have unintended pregnancies feel alone and will do whatever it takes to get rid of the unborn baby. The abortions done by mothers themselves range from easy to very complicated. If it is early in the pregnancy, it is possible to take oral abortion pills—also known as “Plan B”. Later in the pregnancy would require more harsh methods. One of the most common procedures is called the “hanger abortion”— where a hanger or something similar is inserted through the cervix into the uterus. Both have a great number of side affects and are obviously not as safe as a medical abortion.
Self-induced abortions may seem like the only possible solution to many mothers, yet it is extremely dangerous and life threatening. If a woman attempts to perform an at-home abortion and is unsuccessful, it can cause damage to the fetus that will last forever. Therefore, there are no good outcomes to self-abortions. The courts in Texas and Alabama believe that closing clinics would be very useful and help save lives of babies; but in reality it is killing babies and hurting mothers as
Before the Roe v. Wade decision that legalized abortion in 1973, women would resort to self-induced abortions. Most people are aware of the infamous coat hanger abortion method. During this process, the woman, or the person assisting with the abortion will take an everyday wire coat hanger. Sterilized or not, she thrusts the hanger into her vagina, in hopes of reaching the uterus. Without some kind of anatomical knowledge, this step could easily be fatal. Since the end is not tapered, one can easily perforate into the uterus or kidney causing an immense amount of blood loss or eventual death. Even if the procedure is successful, most people who attempt it will run into complications afterward from infection because of the hanger itself. This horrifying method is still used today, and will indefinitely be used if women are not given the healthcare they need. Also, low-income individuals and those who are residents in a rural area will have no other
In her article “How to Really Defend Planned Parenthood” (NY Times, 8/5/15) Katha Pollitt asserts that the pro-choice movement is consistently under fire due to faults in its defense, and that we, as supporters, must find ways to carefully and accurately explain why both society and the individual benefit from voluntary motherhood. She uses statistics displaying a sizable number of women receiving abortions, yet a very miniscule amount speaking up in defense of Planned Parenthood, to support her claims and to suggest that the voices of the 95% who felt they made the right decision are a potentially vital resource to the movement. Pollitt’s purpose is to highlight the necessity of public support in order to inspire all who have benefitted from
Abortion is one of the most controversial topics in our country today. With a president who is definitely anti-choice and therefore wants to defund Planned Parenthood, this topic seems to be in the news every other day. In the National Association for the Repeal of Abortion Laws (NARAL) Pro-Choice America Foundation’s article entitled “Abortion Bans Without Exception Endanger Women’s Health,” the topic of abortion bans without health exceptions is discussed with a viewpoint on the pro-choice side. The article discusses the different court cases that have helped bring abortion rights to our country, as well as the court cases that the anti-choice side of the argument has instilled to reverse these rights. NARAL (2013) incorporates many different
How would you feel if someone took away your ability to live? Imagine not having any say in whether or not you want to have a life. Well babies don't have a choice in their mother’s womb. If a woman decides to abort her baby, they can't do anything about their life being taken away from them. Their whole future is demolished. I believe abortion is wrong when committing it for a selfish reason.
According to “Public Funding for Abortion”, abortion clinics are funded voluntarily by the state government and not the federal government. Even though the federal government does not support abortion clinics, they certainly do not want to shut down any of the clinics that are currently open around the country. By allowing abortion clinics to remain open and run continuously, the federal government is silently supporting abortion clinics. In a way, by allowing abortion clinics to remain open, the federal government is controlling the population levels from getting higher. By going to an abortion clinic are females allowing themselves
Jaden is a fifteen year old girl in high school, one night she went to a party with her boyfriend with no parent supervision so there was a lot of underage drinking, she doesn’t remember a lot from the party that night because she was under the influence, but she does remember being upstairs with her boyfriend. A few days later her boyfriend had told her that she needed to take a pregnancy test because he didn’t use protection, later that day she found out that she was pregnant. Jaden is scared to tell her parents that she is pregnant but she knows she has to tell them so they can help her get an abortion. Teens should be able to get an abortion without parental consent because taking care of a child while in high school can be challenging, it can be hard to provide for a child as a teen, and although it means you have to kill your own child, having an abortion is cheaper than taking care of a baby.
In “Kentucky Could Become The Only State Without A Clinic That Performs Abortions”, an article by Sarah McCammon, address the issue of Kentucky’s only abortion clinic is at risk to be terminated. Gov. Bein has attempted to shut down the clinic once before by telling the “clinic that it was failing to meet state health regulations requiring clinics that provide abortions to have transfer agreements with local hospitals and ambulance services in case of medical emergencies.” During the process of the legal action that seemed to come “out of the blue”, the clinic came very close to being forced to close. While speaking Brigitte Amiri, an attorney representing the clinic, she says the “stakes are very high” causing the reader to feel empathy for
The topic of aborting an innocent fetus has been overwhelmingly controversial in the United States. The two sides to this ongoing debate is pro-life advocates and pro-choice advocates. Abortion is the ending of a pregnancy by removing a fetus or embryo before it can survive outside the uterus; whether it is an unplanned or unwanted pregnancy. Abortions are most often performed during the first twenty-eight weeks of pregnancy and can be performed as a medical or surgical procedure. Medical abortions include two types of abortion pills; while the surgical procedures include vacuum aspiration and dilation and evacuation. Ultimately, I am one of the many “pro-lifers”, and I strongly agree that abortion should be illegal because it negatively affects our people. Women across the nation are becoming impregnated and following a short amount of judgement time, turn to abortion to solve their problems but in the end hurt themselves with this decision. Abortions should be illegal because it is immoral and unconstitutional, causes severe mental and physical issues, and negatively impacts the economy. “During the ancient Roman times it has been supposed that abortion and the destruction of unwanted children was permissible, but as our civilization has aged, it seems that such acts were no longer acceptable by rational human beings, so that in 1948, Canada along with most other nations in the world signed a declaration of the United Nations promising every human being the right to life”
I believe Texas shouldn’t close down abortion clinics. I believe women have a choice and that’s is called pro- choice. Pro-choice believers believe women has the right to do anything with their own body and I support that. I think abortion clinics shouldn’t be shut down due to health issues because not everyone has the money to support a child. For example a teen who becomes pregnant after having sex. If she chooses to keep the child she would lose her education, maybe won’t have a place to live and most of all won’t be finically unable to support the child. Having abortions clinics around would save her mistake and give her another chance and she doesn’t have to deal with those issues. Another problem that happens a lot is rape. For example
Did you know 80% of women abort their kid if they have down syndrome? Abortion is where they end the baby’s life well it is still in the womb. Abortion has been an issue since the 1960’s and continues to grow today. About 1/4 of pregnancies end in abortion and 1/3 of americans before the age of 45 have gotten an abortion. ( (Guttmacher.) Abortion should be illegal considering the reasons for it, ethics and medical effects.
As early as 1550 B.C., Egyptians were performing abortions. Egyptians documented the techniques they used to perform abortions and by the Middle Ages, the concept of abortion had spread globally (PRB). Knowing the idea, of terminating a pregnancy, was being performed in 1550 B.C., the number of babies lost to this horrific death will never truly be known. Since 1969, the CDC started documenting the numbers of legal abortions obtained in the United States. Roe vs. Wade was the infamous court case that made its way to the U.S. Supreme Court, in 1973, that assisted abortion in becoming completely legal. The United National Library of Medicine published that since that day in 1973 abortion rates peaked but remained continuous through the
The topic covered in this research paper is abortion. This paper looks into the history of abortion, the pro-life view of abortion and the pro-choice view of abortion. Under history of abortion the information included is the time line of significant events of abortion such as becoming legal, also different ways in ancient times women would try to use abortions. The upgrading of technology making abortion safer and even if abortion was illegal women would still find a way to abort a baby are also covered under the history of abortion. Under pro-life choice for abortion looks into abortion murder, the rights of human and the rights of the unborn and that a women doesn't have a right to terminate her own fetus. Under pro- choice
In the article Ethics of Abortion, much of the pro life argument seems to be
Descriptive: Abortion is the termination of an unplanned or unwanted pregnancy. It is a controversial issue affecting our society and raises ethical issues. Abortions can be performed before nine weeks from the last menstrual period and is performed either surgically with the removal of the fetus or medically with drugs. From nine weeks until 14 weeks, an abortion is performed by a dilatation and suction curettage procedure. After 14 weeks, abortions are then performed by an evacuation procedure. After 20 weeks of gestation, abortions can be performed by labor induction, prostaglandin labor induction, saline infusion, hysterectomy, or dilatation and extraction.
Women may have an abortion for a variety of reasons, but in general they choose abortion because a pregnancy at that time is in some way wrong for them. “Abortion is the removal of a fetus from the uterus before it is mature enough to live on its own” (Kuechler 1996). When this happens spontaneously we call it a miscarriage. Induced abortion is brought about deliberately by a medical procedure that ends pregnancy. Legal abortion, carried out by trained medical practitioners, is one of the most common and safest surgical procedures. “About 1.5 million American women choose to have induced abortions each year. Less than 1% of all abortion patients experience a major complication associated with the procedure” (Kuechler 1996).
