Abortion is one of the most common medical procedures performed in the United States each year. The ninth amendment gave women the legal right to abort since 1789. Abortion has been thought of as a legal form of murder. Some argue that it is not murder, but a mother’s right. This gives women the opportunity to take the easy way out, which is selfish. More than 40% of all women will end a pregnancy by abortion at some time in their reproductive life. Abortion is taking another’s life, a life that you created and is dependent on you. At what point can one consider a life worthless and the next precious. Abortion is the termination of pregnancy anytime during the first trimester. To them the fetus is not viable until birth, so it is ok. However, medical researches have proven the fetus to be a living organism. So giving women the right to control her body should not give her right to that life too. The unborn being dependent on the mother for nine months, does not give anyone the right to end its life. Abortion kills the unborn baby by expulsion of the fetus that is said to be incapable of survival. Thus killing a helpless baby who has not yet had the chance to live and function as a human being. The procedure of abortion is very gruesome and if many people knew what happens to the baby they would consider it murder. If women feel that they do not want the child there are other choices like adoption. There are many women who cannot have children of the own that would love to provide a home for the baby. Many people take advantage of abortions and use it as a form of birth control. If women want to prevent an unwanted pregnancy, then they should use contraceptive or abstinence. This could stop a lot of the abortions performed. If a person feels responsible enough to engage in sexual activities, then they should be responsible enough to deal with the consequences that follow. If people were more conscious of their actions so many lives could be spared. People need to remember that every time an abortion is performed, the death of an unborn child occurs. That unborn child committed no crime and should not be punished.
