Abortion: Pre-Existing Murder Abortion is the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy, most often performed during the first twenty-eight weeks of pregnancy. Abortion has been a massive subject of controversy in the United States for decades. Should one abort there living, developing fetus, or chose a more civilized option, such as adoption? To begin, citizens of America have the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. They also express the right to choose. Abortion represents a woman’s right to choose whether or not to continue a pregnancy. This is a fundamental human right and reproductive freedom that is protected by the United States Constitution. Women have the right to choose adoption, abortion, or to deliver and raise the child. In contrast, physicians go into medicine to save lives, not take them away. The original text of the Hippocratic Oath, traditionally taken by doctors when swearing into practice medicine ethically, forbids abortion. “I will not give a woman a pessary to cause an abortion,” is a statement in the classical version of the oath. In the more modern version of the Hippocratic Oath, written in 1964 by Luis Lasagna, clearly and effectively forbids doctors from performing abortions. It is unethical, and stands against everything in the ethical and religious practice of medicine.
