Abortion : Pro Life And Pro Choice

Abortion has been one of the biggest controversies of all time. Many people believe that women should get to decide what she would do with her body. The definition of abortion is; “The termination of pregnancy by the removal or expulsion from the uterus of a fetus or embryo prior to being capable of normal growth”. Abortion is one of the most controversial topics today. Although there are two sides of the debate pro-choice and pro life, arguments are mainly centered around the Roe v. Wade decision, women’s rights and state restrictive laws.

Governor Mike Pence of Indiana recently signed the House Bill 1337, making Indiana the second state to ban abortion because of the fetus disability, ethnicity, or gender. The bill has escalated an uproar political debate between pro-life and pro-choice advocates.

Out of all modern social controversies, perhaps the most heated controversy is that of abortion. In today’s society you are either a Pro-life or a Pro-choice, there is not a middle ground. Pro-life are individuals who believe abortion is immoral and should be stop for the wellbeing of women and unborn babies. In contrast, the Pro-choice individuals do not necessarily promote abortion, they just believe women should be the ones to make decisions over their bodies and health. Although the two main sides of the abortion debate have concerns for human life, pro-life activists worries more about the fetus and morals, a clear difference from the pro-choice that worries more for the women and their rights. Based on the points I explored, the pro-choice arguments are stronger than pro-life arguments. Most of both groups arguments comes from peer-reviewed researches from well-known sources to support each individual concept. Effects on women,socio-politics, and fetus are some of the main point of conflicts between the pro-life and pro-choice advocates.

Women’s rights have always been underestimated. One aspect of women’s rights that receives a lot of attention is reproductive rights. Often times, people think of reproductive rights and automatically think of abortion, but, reproductive rights can include many things like abortion and birth control/ contraceptives, etc. Although reproductive rights are for both men and women, women often have a harder time exercising their rights. The famous 1973 case of Roe v. Wade made history in women’s reproductive rights by legalizing abortion, its efforts for abortion to not be criminalized were reached and allowed women to receive abortions without being criminalized. Yet, since 1973 there has been many efforts that set up undue burdens which have strained the rights of many women. There have been many social groups that work towards both side of the spectrum of reproductive rights like: Pro-Choice and Pro-Life. Campaigns, which work as political or social organizers that strive towards achieving a particular thing or area, have made the efforts to fight for the reproductive rights that they believe in. Furthermore, there are many key campaigns that work towards a specific aspect of reproductive rights. For example, Planned Parenthood Action typically fights for birth control, while NRLA usually fights for the rights of women to be able to decided if they want the abortion or not, the National Right to Life (NRLC) fights for abortions to be illegal and tries to influence people into

The restrictions and the debate that surrounds the issue of abortion has changed dramatically throughout the course of history and it continues to change until this very moment. All around the world and in every known society, women have used abortion to control their reproduction, regardless of it’s legality. Abortion used to be exercised freely in the United Sates, up Until all the states started to ban It and place a lot of restrictions on it. They stated that a woman can not abort except in extreme cases in which the mother’s life might be in danger. After the restrictions caused a lot of health issues and raised concerns on women’s health, The Government abolished all the restrictions. In this paper I will analyze and discuss three main positions on the issue of abortion. First, there are those who associate themselves with the title “pro-life”. These individuals are anti abortion, birth control, embryo research or anything that can control or cause any harm to the fetus. Second, there are those who at the other end of the spectrum who firmly believe that if a woman decides to abort, then it is her constitutional right to do so without any interference from the government. Third, are those who believe that if a woman is raped or her life is in danger, then abortion should be completely and solely up to the woman, but other than that, abortion should be illegal. Freedom, as defined by the Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary, is “The power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without hindrance or restraint.” Innocent people deserve freedom, yet people are suppressed everyday; and abortion is one right that many women do not possess. Even geographically locations that permit abortion by law do not always guarantee a women this right. Some states in America, for an example, have upwards to twelve restrictive laws against abortion put into place to keep this right suppressed (Guttmacher Institute). The argument between pro-life and pro-choice gets more and more difficult all the time because everyone has their own opinion on the discussion. Not everyone feels the same about this subject not only because it is their opinion but because it is in their beliefs and/or religion. I am a pro-choice believer because I feel it is most definitely the woman’s choice, however, I don’t feel that abortion is a kind of birth control. I can understand certain circumstances because believe me there are plenty but for a girl or woman to use abortion as a resort they use often, that to me is murder. I do respect others and their beliefs towards this subject because that is the kind of person I am but many do not have the same opinion as me and can be rude and nasty about the situation.

After reading the material, it made me very sad to see what women are doing out there to their unborn children. Some of them are not doing it because they are bad mothers but it is of a lack of education. My mother smoke with me in her stomach for the whole nine months because she did not know better and she did not know the Lord and she regrets every moment of it right now. About the pro-life versus pro-choice, I am personally totally against abortion. However; when it comes to medical issues, I believe it should be called a different name. Abortion, the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy through the agency of the mother, is a highly debated ethical issue. Abortion is an ethical issue because it involves violating the either the fetus’s natural right to live, or the mother’s right to freedom. The two most common approaches to this issue are pro-life and pro-choice. The pro-life approach argues that the fetus is a human who has sentience and natural rights, and therefore it is wrong to harm the unborn child. One of the most common issues within the abortion dilemma is the problem of personhood. There is debate over what qualifications the fetus must display in order to have the rights that come with moral personhood. One ethical principle that can be applied to the issue of personhood in relation to abortion is the Value of Life Principle. Under the Value of Life ethical principle, preservation of life takes precedence over all other ethical values. Therefore, according to this principle, if it can be determined that the fetus has the right to life, that right must be preserved. However, even if it is determined that fetuses have natural rights, the mother already has the same rights which creates conflict. The pro-choice approach argues that the fetus is a part of the mother, and therefore her rights to freedom and ownership of her own body are more important than a fetus’s rights. It cannot be argued that the mother is not a fully sentient being, and therefore, the mother’s rights are undeniable.

Many of us are faced with the question of where we stand on the abortion debate,“So, are you pro-life or pro-choice?”. The vast majority of us might not have a straight-laced answer to this question. Responses such as “ Well, I’m pro-life but….” followed by an exception due to ethical reasons are far too common.

Abortion, not to be confused with miscarriage, is defined as the immediate termination of a human pregnancy, most often performed within the first 28 weeks of pregnancy. A spontaneous abortion, also known as a miscarriage, is an expulsion of a fetus from the womb before it is able to survive independently. Women have abortions for many reasons including: Inability to support or care for a child, to prevent the birth of a child with birth defects or severe health problems, pregnancy resulting from rape and/or incest, physical or mental conditions that endanger the woman’s health if pregnancy is continued, and financial instability.

The topic I choose to research was abortion because the question of whether abortion should be legal is a continuous debate. There are two sides to this ongoing fight; Pro-Choice and Pro-Life. To determine which group suits you, you can ask yourself do you think abortion should be banned or accepted? I choose to accept abortion and therefore identify as a person who is Pro-Choice. Abortion is not a black and white issue. It can be complicated and personal. My groups position on the issue on abortion is that we believe that abortions are a woman’s choice and shouldn’t be limited by the government or any religious authorities.

Abortion is an extremely delicate and controverting issue across the world, and in many situations, pregnant women debate on whether to have an abortion or not. While some people may believe that it is acceptable to be pro-choice and that an embryo is not technically alive until a certain number of weeks after conception, abortion is still murdering the fetus in such a devastating way. Furthermore, many women who do not necessarily want to have a child believe that abortion is the only way out, but it is important that women look at the countless options before settling with abortion. With that being said, I believe that all women such be pro-life for the following reasons: life begins at conception, abortion can harm the mother physically and emotionally, pregnancy and children are a gift from God, and the legislative part of the U.S. government have laws against certain types of abortion.
