Abortion in itself is a very controversial topic and different people has different views on it some says it should be legalized while others in the other hand says legalization of abortion can create a lot of problems. Abortion is the spontaneous or induced termination of pregnancy before fetal viability. According to WHO, abortion is the pregnancy termination prior to 20 weeks gestation or a fetus born weighing less than 500 grams. Abortion may be self-induced; i.e. due to the person’s will or may be spontaneous. A spontaneous abortion is often termed as miscarriage and the term “abortion” often implies an induced abortion. Abortion can be done by various medical and surgical methods. Surgical method often involves an invasion of the uterus and suction whereas in the medical method, medicines like prostaglandin analogs are preferred. Abortion initially originated from Europe and North America but has been gaining popularity throughout the world. Some countries have freely accepted this technique whereas some are still in the verge of argument. Socio-economic barriers, cultural aspects of some religions still disregard abortion and consider it a sin, and few others acknowledge that the right to reproduction lies in the hands of the mother and is for her to decide.
